Goodwood Library Toy Library is very popular so with the permission of parents and carer, I share my photo of engrossed customers! Our Libraries are so important providing citizens with accurate up-to-date information. However they also enable parent to meet other parents.... a vital part of building community and child upbringing.

The Commonwealth Government finds Local Government a very cost effective means of delivering services. Attended The Australian Local Government conference in Canberra last week and had the opportunity to engage with Government and fellow Mayors from around Australia.

In 1999 Unley Council introduced a 40 kph speed limit on our residential streets. It made our streets safer. Over time sections of our connector roads like King William Road have also been made 40 kph. Requests for sections of East Avenue, Duthy Street and Fisher Street have also been made. Our 2023 Council has tasked our CEO with a KPI to see whether all of our Council streets can be 40 kph. Around the world 30 kph is being adopted but 30 kph is not on our Council agenda.

Corflutes recycled
Election sign fiasco?
Election signs are like party balloons. They let our community know there is an election on. My printer was aghast. The plastic corflute he said is 100% recyclable and the cardboard election sign has environmentally unfriendly chemicals and would fall to obits when it rained. He provided me with the certificate to support the claim. The corflutes are made from 100% SA waste plastic and are 100% recyclable. Not all plastic signs are, but the ones I used were. They are well and truly recycled. YCA recycling at Wingfield were delighted to have them. The corflutes were allowed on private property and election cardboard signs.
Too many signs are a blight on the landscape. Would a limit per candidate per 1,000 voters work?

Thank you to all who encouraged, helped and voted. I so often heard the comment, "I'm very happy with Unley Council, You are a shoo-in, so I didn't need to vote." With a very slow voter response I was concerned. Those who were unhappy with something they believe Council is responsible for, they are likely voters. Fortunately 9,133 took the trouble to vote. An absolute majority supported my return as Mayor, so no preferences were distributed. Thank you

By meeting our community you learn so much. I am so disappointed that the Mike Turtur bikeway upgrade did not include mobility scooter access across the tram line. Aaron states, " both tram and train pedestrian crossings (the zig zag bike dismounts) are not wide enough for a mobility scooter's wide turning circle.
The only way mobility scooters can currently cross a train or tram line is to use the adjacent road if there is one, if not take a detour to where there is a road, crossings like at King William Rd, Goodwood Rd, Cross Rd, and Leader Street are not safe roads and intersections for mobility scooters." Aaron's other idea was that it would be good if there were some shelters like bus shelters along the bikeway. Tram stops work for most of us.
"This would provide shelter in times of sudden downpours of rain."

(Presented by City of Unley)
"Take a look at Indigenous plants and their traditional uses for food and medicine."
Opportunities like this bring community together to share and learn, making Unley an even better place to live.

The 20th anniversary of the Bali Bombing drew a large gathering to share the memories, remember the fallen and lay wreaths at the memorial next to Unley Oval on the corner of Frederick St and Trimmer Parade. The commemoration began in St Augustine's Church. It was our community of Unley coming together. Thank you to St Augustine's Church , Sturt FC and Unley Council. I hope and know that the Deegan and Marshall families were comforted and supported by the overwhelming community response.
