Meet firefighter Zoe

Zoe has been a member of the CFS for almost 2 years.
By day, she’s studying and working in outdoor education. In her free time, she enjoys playing footy and tennis, and is a big fan of climbing, both indoors and outdoors.
Zoe joined the CFS to learn new skills, meet new people and be part of a team in her local community.
Her favourite part of being in the brigade is getting stuck into new things, learning new skills and putting what she learns into practice.

Meet Lieutenant Firefighter Jake

Jake has been a member of the CFS for 9 years.

By day, he’s the owner and a tradesman at Sparrow Electrical and Refrigeration. Outside of work, he’s a dad of three, which means plenty of time running around to the kids’ sport, and when he gets a chance, trying to keep fit himself.

He joined the CFS to give back to the community, make some new mates , stay apart of a team, learn more leadership skills and be there to help people when they need it most which is one of his most important reasons.

His favourite parts of being in the CFS is the opportunity to meet new people, make lifelong mates and continually challenge himself while learning and developing new skills.

After 9 years, he still enjoys being part of a team that looks out for one another and gets the job done when it matters.

In the lead up to our next Fire Season, we’d like to introduce you to some of your Upper Sturt CFS members.

Meet Fire Fighter Polly

Polly has been a member of the Upper Sturt CFS for 4 years.

By day, she’s the CEO of the South Australian West Coast ACCHO Network, working in Aboriginal health across the Eyre and Far West Coast. Outside of work, she’s mum to 18-month-old Teddy, a pug lover (she has 3!) and a big foodie.

Polly joined the CFS because she wanted to better understand the area she lives in, learn more about bushfires and fire behaviour and feel more confident and prepared during the summer months.

One of her favourite parts of being in the CFS is the friendships she’s made with her fellow volunteers. There are always plenty of laughs, everyone looks out for each other and there’s never a shortage of people willing to lend a hand.

📱 Heads up South Australia!

At 1:30 pm ACST (SA local time) on Monday 27 July, compatible mobile devices across South Australia may receive the AusAlert national test notification.

The test alert will make compatible devices vibrate and play a loud siren-like sound, even if your device is on silent or do not disturb. It will clearly identify itself as a TEST and no action is required.

AusAlert is a new national emergency messaging system being developed by the Commonwealth Government to help deliver critical warning information during emergencies.

It was an honour to be at the Repat today, to witness the unveiling of a commemorative seat, recognising the efforts of our ex Captain (Moose Dunlop) and Dogs Kearney.
These two amazing people helped create “Trojans Trek”. An organisation that has helped many veterans and first responders to manage their PTSD.
Much deserved recognition.
