The name "Uralla" was taken by European settlers from the dialect of the local Aniwan people, and means "meeting place". Appropriately named, Uralla is located in New England High Country, 501km north of Sydney and 485km south of Brisbane, at the meeting of the New England Highway and Thunderbolt's Way. Uralla is a classic Australian country town with fabulous fresh and hearty dining, bakeries and cafรฉs, to tempt and satisfy the hungry traveller. For the enquiring visitor, there is an antiquarian bookshop, galleries and boutique wool fashion to while away a relaxing day in town. Take the kids fossicking for gold, or a gem or two, or take a scenic drive to one of the amazing attractions, such as, Thunderbolt's Rock, Gostwyck Chapel or Dangar's Falls. Discover lovely surrounding villages where you will most certainly find charm; Kentucky, Invergowrie, Kingstown and Bundarra boast natural attractions, heritage, en route cool climate wineries, B&B's, riverside camping and with so much to discover, a sense of having really been somewhere.
