**UPDATE**
Free access to the Oasis on Thursday 8 January 2025, 6am–9pm

Due to predicted temperatures of or above 41 degrees Celsius, the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre will provide free entry Thursday 8 January 2025, 6am to 9pm.

Free admission for Friday 9 will be confirmed Thursday afternoon and details posted online.

Please note – we're expecting it to be extremely busy, and guest numbers will be capped onsite to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all on the day.

We recommend keeping an eye on Wagga Leisure's social media pages for updates, and we'll let you know if there are changes in pool availability or delays due to visitor numbers.

If you do decide to come down and beat the heat at the Oasis, we ask that you follow the directions of staff at all times, drink plenty of water, be patient and put your rubbish in the bins.

If we are at capacity, or if you’re not keen on swimming, Council has a list of “cool places” where people can escape the heat. Visit Council's Heatwave page (https://wagga.nsw.gov.au/heatwaves) or check City of Wagga Wagga for details.

After more than nine years of service, I’ve made the decision to step down from my role as a Wagga Wagga City Councillor, effective 31 January 2026.

This wasn’t an easy call, but with new professional commitments ahead, it’s the right time to make space for the next chapter — both for me and for our community.

I’m incredibly grateful for the trust, support, and conversations shared over the years. Serving our city has been one of the greatest honours of my life.

Thank you, Wagga. ❤️

🌟 Inspired by a Young Heart with a Big Vision 🌟

Today I met a young boy with a heart of gold and an idea that stopped me in my tracks. After a recent visit to the hospital emergency department, he couldn’t stop thinking about how uncomfortable the waiting chairs were — not for himself, but for the people sitting with their sick loved ones, often for hours.

His simple wish? To raise money for comfortable chairs in the emergency room. So others don’t have to suffer in silence while already going through so much.

That kind of compassion and community spirit deserves our support. 🙌

Let’s rally behind this young changemaker and help bring his vision to life. I’m calling on local businesses, community groups, and anyone in a position to give — your donation could make a real difference to families in their most vulnerable moments.

If you’re interested in contributing or partnering to make this happen, comment below or send me a message. Let’s show this young legend how powerful an idea can be when a community gets behind it. 💙🪑

The tribute below, shared by her team at 2WG and Star FM, reflects just a glimpse of the impact she had.

Thank you, Yvonne, for your unwavering commitment to others. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of many.

This morning, we paid our respects to the incomparable Yvonne Braid OAM, former General Manager of 2WG and Wagga Wagga City Councillor, who sadly passed away last week.

Today we received the sad news of the passing of Yvonne Braid OAM. Yvonne always put the Community first and it was an honour to serve with Yvonne at Wagga City Council, Riverina Water and Ronald McDonald House South West NSW. Thank you for your support and being a mentor to me when starting out on council.
