NOTICE OF PROPOSED IMPORTANT HAZARD REDUCTION WORKS
Community Members,
We wish to advise all of hazard reduction burn known as McCanns Rd HR – Wakefield, proposed for this coming weekend in Lake Macquarie LGA.
The burn will be undertaken by the NSW Rural Fire Service and subject to weather conditions, is scheduled for:
SATURDAY, 25TH SEPTEMBER 2021 COMMENCING AT APPROXIMATELY 9:00 AM AND TO BE COMPLETED BY APPROXIMATELY 7:00 PM.
This activity will consist of prescribed burning of vegetation to reduce the bush fire fuel and assist in reducing the intensity and adverse impact of bush fires in extreme weather conditions.
The prescribed burning will be undertaken at:
BUSHLAND TO THE SOUTH OF MCCANNS ROAD, EASTERN SIDE OF POWER EASEMENT & WESTERN SIDE OF MILLER ROAD, WAKEFIELD
(SEE MAP ATTACHED)

As the prescribed burn will generate smoke, hot embers and heat, it is important that residents close by consider the following:
• Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke entering homes and keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns;
• Ensure pets have a protected area, retract pool covers to prevent ember damage and remove washing from clotheslines;
• If you are driving a vehicle, slow down, keep windows up and turn headlights on;
• If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice; and
• You may experience discoloured tap water due to water being extracted by fire fighters from the water mains. Find out what you can do by contacting the local water authority;

If weather conditions become unfavourable on the scheduled burn days, the hazard reduction burn will be postponed until conditions become suitable. Ongoing patrols of the burn will be conducted as required.
Should any further information be required, please contact the District Office on 1300 060 807 between 8:30am and 4:30pm weekdays.
