🚗🚨 Did you know the Walgett SES Unit is an accredited rescue unit?

Many people know the NSW SES for helping during storms and floods, but our volunteers also provide Road Crash Rescue and a range of rescue services across Walgett and surrounding communities.

Our highly trained volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, responding when people need us most.

Behind every rescue is a team of local volunteers who dedicate countless hours to training, maintaining their skills and being ready to respond.

Yesterday, Walgett SES welcomed the NSW State Rescue Board inspection team as part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring we're ready to respond when our community needs us.

The inspection reviewed our rescue doctrine, equipment, and operational capability, helping ensure our volunteers continue to meet the high standards expected of an accredited rescue unit.

As part of the visit, Unit Commander Bec took the inspection team on a tour of the local area, including the iconic Walgett Weir and the junction of the Namoi and Barwon Rivers. Sharing local knowledge and highlighting the unique environment our volunteers operate in provides valuable context for the challenges we face during flood and rescue operations.

A big thank you to our dedicated members for their professionalism and commitment to protecting the Walgett community. Whether it's training, maintaining equipment, or responding to emergencies, they're always working to ensure they're ready when it matters most.

⚠️ AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

‼️ On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
• 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
• 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
• 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds.
If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises Flood peaks continue to move through the Culgoa and Birrie Rivers. Along the Culgoa River, the flood peak is approaching Brenda, where river levels may peak late this week. Along the Birrie River, river levels at Goodooga are expected to remain below the minor flood level and are approaching their peak.

The Bokhara River at Goodooga peaked below the minor flood level on Tuesday evening.

Along the Narran River, river levels at New Angledool No 2 have fallen below the minor flood level, following a moderate flood peak on Monday evening.

Flooding is no longer occurring along the Narran River.

The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 peaked at 3.55 m around 10:00 pm Monday 30 March, with moderate flooding. The river is currently at 2.52 m and falling, below the minor flood level. The Narran River at New Angledool No 2 is expected to remain below the minor flood level (3.30 m).

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by floodwaters:

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises The flood peak observed last week at Dirranbandi along the Lower Balonne River in Queensland is moving down through the Culgoa, Birrie, Bokhara and Narran River systems. The flood peak along the Culgoa River is around Woolerbilla, along the Bokhara River is around Hebel and along the Narran River is below Dirranbandi-Hebel Road.

Along the Narran River moderate flooding is occurring at Angledool, with a moderate flood peak possible during Wednesday. At Brenda and Goodooga, minor flooding is possible from mid-week.

The Culgoa River at Brenda is currently at 4.01 m and rising slowly, below the minor flood level. The Culgoa River at Brenda may reach around the minor flood level (4.90 m) around mid-week.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

- Low-lying roads, bridges and causeways along the river and creeks.
- Unsealed roads may still be impassable.
- Relocation of pumps and livestock may be required.
