When the bell rings inside the fire station, regional firefighter Raoul Otto De Grancy feels a drive within. It's a passion to help others he's felt his entire life.

It is with heavy hearts we can confirm a Fire and Rescue Service firefighter has passed away overnight following a factory fire at Slacks Creek early yesterday morning.

Izabella Nash joined the Fire and Rescue Service in 2014 and served as a First Class Firefighter.

A second firefighter, Lia Drew, who is a Senior Firefighter, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The thoughts of all QFES members are with Izzy’s and Lia’s families, friends and fellow crew members.

Investigations into this incident are underway.

Further information will be provided when appropriate.

Since October 2022, CFS has supported the SA State Emergency Service and River Murray communities by facilitating ongoing deployments to assist with the state’s flooding event.

We are proud of the outstanding and continuing response from CFS members to help reduce the impact of the flood on affected communities.

As an all-hazards response agency, the CFS is committed to protecting and assisting the South Australian community in their time of need.

On 16 February 1983, more than 180 fires broke out across South Australia and Victoria. In South Australia the Adelaide Hills were worst affected. There were also fires in the South East, Eyre Peninsula, Mid-north, and McLaren Flat. Across the state over 200,000 hectares were burnt, 383 houses were destroyed, and very sadly 28 lives were lost. It was a disaster on such a grand scale, that for the first time in South Australia's history the State Government declared a State of Emergency.

We take a moment today to remember those that were lost in these devastating fires and our hearts go out to those people who still are still affected by this awful day.

Today marks the first anniversary since the tragic loss of Louise Hincks, whilst she was fighting a bushfire in the states South-East. It’s a sad reminder of the dangers our CFS volunteers face on a regular basis to keep their communities safe.

We express our heart-felt condolences to Louise’s family, friends, CFS Happy Valley, SA CFS employees and volunteers and members of SAFECOM, SPAM team and to all those who Louise had touched. We hope that the memories you keep close to your heart, guide you through this hard time.

May you rest in peace Louise. 🤍
