๐Ÿ”ฅ WHEN DID YOU LAST CLEAN YOUR DRYERโ€™S LINT FILTER? ๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿงบ

It takes seconds to do, but itโ€™s an important part of reducing the risk of a clothes dryer fire.

Lint is highly combustible and can accumulate quickly, particularly in busy households where the dryer gets plenty of use.

๐Ÿงน Clean the lint filter before or after every load
๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Keep ventilation and exhaust areas clear
๐Ÿ‘• Donโ€™t overload the dryer
โš ๏ธ Stop using the appliance if it begins making unusual noises, smells hot or isnโ€™t operating normally
๐Ÿ  Make sure you have working smoke alarms
๐Ÿ”Œ Follow the manufacturerโ€™s instructions for use and maintenance

Avoid running your dryer when nobody is home to respond if something goes wrong.

Clean the lint. Check the dryer. Reduce the risk.

๐Ÿ”‹ LITHIUM-ION BATTERIES POWERFUL, BUT NOT RISK FREE ๐Ÿ”ฅ

E-bikes and e-scooters are becoming increasingly common and so are fires involving lithium-ion batteries.

When these batteries fail, they can produce an extremely intense and rapidly developing fire.

โšก Only use the charger designed or approved for your device
๐Ÿ”Œ Unplug the device once charging is complete
๐Ÿšช Never charge an e-bike or e-scooter where it blocks your exit
โ˜€๏ธ Keep batteries away from excessive heat and direct sunlight
๐Ÿ”จ Never use a battery that is swollen, damaged, leaking or behaving unusually
๐Ÿ›๏ธ Avoid charging devices while youโ€™re asleep or unable to monitor them
โ™ป๏ธ Dispose of damaged or unwanted batteries correctly never place them in general household rubbish

If a lithium-ion battery starts smoking, hissing, swelling or overheating, move away, evacuate and call Triple Zero (000).

Charge safely. Store safely. Know the warning signs.

๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ”ฅ DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE A HOME FIRE ESCAPE PLAN?

When a fire starts, conditions inside a home can change incredibly quickly. Thatโ€™s why the best time to work out how youโ€™re getting outside is before an emergency happens.

Sit down with everyone in your household and make a simple escape plan.

๐Ÿšช Know two ways out of each room where possible
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Make sure children understand what to do
๐Ÿ“ Choose a safe meeting place outside
๐Ÿ”‘ Keep exits accessible and keys readily available
๐Ÿšจ Get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000)
๐Ÿ”ฅ Never go back inside a burning building

And most importantly practise it.

Turn it into a quick family drill and make sure everyone knows exactly where to meet once outside.

A few minutes of planning today could save precious seconds during a real emergency.

๐Ÿ”ฅ PLANNING A BACKYARD FIRE? KNOW THE RULES FIRST.

A cool evening around a fire can be great an unexpected visit from the local fire truck, probably less so. ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ˜…

Before lighting any recreational fire, make sure it is permitted and complies with the rules applying to your area and current fire restrictions.

โœ… Check whether the fire is permitted
๐Ÿ“‹ Check whether approvals or permits are required
๐Ÿ”ฅ Check current fire restrictions and Total Fire Bans
๐Ÿ’ง Have a reliable means of extinguishing the fire nearby
๐Ÿ‘€ Keep the fire supervised at all times
๐Ÿ  Keep it safely away from structures and combustible materials
๐Ÿ’จ Be considerate of smoke affecting neighbouring properties

Never leave a fire unattended, and make sure it is completely extinguished when youโ€™re finished.

Before lighting up, check the current advice from Fire and Rescue NSW, the NSW Rural Fire Service and your local council.

๐Ÿš— SAFE DRIVING SAVES LIVES ๐Ÿš’

Our crews regularly attend motor vehicle crashes and we see firsthand how quickly an ordinary trip can turn into an emergency.

Whether youโ€™re travelling five minutes down the road or heading away for the weekend:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Put the phone away
๐Ÿ’บ Wear your seatbelt
๐Ÿšฆ Obey the speed limit and drive to the conditions
๐Ÿ˜ด Donโ€™t drive tired
๐Ÿบ Never drink and drive
๐Ÿš’ If you see emergency vehicles approaching with lights and sirens, remain calm and safely make way

Thereโ€™s no text message, appointment or destination worth risking a life for.

Slow down. Stay focused. Arrive safely.

๐ŸŒฟ SPRING IS ALMOST HERE, IS YOUR HOME READY? โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

As the weather starts warming up, now is a great time to give your property a spring fire-safety clean-up.

A little preparation around the home can make a big difference as conditions become warmer and vegetation begins to dry out.

๐Ÿ‚ Remove accumulated leaves and dry vegetation
๐Ÿ  Clear leaves and debris from gutters
๐ŸŒณ Trim vegetation away from buildings
๐Ÿ”ฅ Keep combustible materials away from your home
๐Ÿšช Make sure everyone knows your household escape plan
๐Ÿš’ Keep access to your property clear for emergency vehicles

While youโ€™re doing the spring clean, give your smoke alarms a test too!

Prepare now, rather than when an emergency is already happening.

๐Ÿšจ SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES ๐Ÿšจ

When youโ€™re asleep, your sense of smell wonโ€™t wake you, but a working smoke alarm can.

Take a minute this week to check the smoke alarms throughout your home. Press the test button, make sure everyone in the household recognises the sound, and never ignore a chirping or faulty alarm.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Test your smoke alarms regularly
๐Ÿ”‹ Replace removable batteries when required
๐Ÿงน Keep alarms clean and free from dust
๐Ÿ  Make sure alarms are installed in the right locations
๐Ÿ“… Replace smoke alarms when they reach the end of their service life

A working smoke alarm can provide the early warning you need to get yourself and your family to safety.

Donโ€™t leave it until thereโ€™s smoke in the room. Test yours today.
