Don't let the blue sky fool you - conditions can change very quickly at all Victorian snow resorts 🏔️ and black ice is very difficult to see and negotiate ❄️🧊🏂

Don't forget that it is a requirement for ALL vehicles entering Victoria Alpine resorts including Mt Buffalo to carry chains and fit them when directed.

Stay safe and don't risk having an accident or being handed a $204 fine 💸

STEERING OUR YOUNG DRIVERS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Wangaratta Police were proud to host the first Cool Heads – Young Driver Program in Wangaratta since 2015.

More than 120 community members joined us for some powerful and confronting presentations that highlighted the real and lasting consequences of risky driving behaviours.

A huge thank you to our guest speakers, D/Sgt HILL from the Victoria Police Major Collision Investigation Unit, His Honour Ian WATKINS from the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria and Alex from Ambulance Victoria, who all shared their professional experience and insight. We were also lucky to have our Benalla and Shepparton police members attend the night to support us.

A very special thank you to Rosalie DOWS for allowing us to share her story about Stephen, her son who tragically lost his life in 2016. Her lived experience was shared on the night by Louisa from Wangaratta High School, leaving a lasting impact on all those who attended.

We sincerely appreciate the support of Wangaratta High School for donating the venue and promoting this important event. Wangaratta Motors kindly donated five lucky door prizes of vehicle safety checks, which is essential for road safety. We would also like to express our appreciation to the Wangaratta Chronicle and Galen Catholic College for promoting the CoolHeads program.

Your engagement helps us continue promoting safer roads for all.

The snow season is here. ❄️

With tens of thousands of visitors expected across Victoria’s alpine region, police will be out in force helping to keep roads, resorts and communities safe.

Last season, police responded to 26 search and rescue incidents across Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek, while more than 4,000 vehicles were turned around for failing to carry required wheel chains.

If you’re heading to the snow:
🚗 Carry the correct wheel chains and know how to fit them
🏔️ Stick to designated tracks and avoid hiking alone
🎒 Pack extra food, water and warm clothing
🌨️ Check weather and road conditions before you travel

Plan ahead, prepare for changing conditions and enjoy everything Victoria’s alpine region has to offer this winter.

Thieves aren’t looking for your keys - they’re looking for your OBD port to override your car.

Make it harder to steal by installing a port lock 🔒
