Wangaratta Fire Brigade are immensely proud to shine a spotlight on our Community Safety Officer & District 23 Group Secretary Lauren McCully, who recently was chosen to represent CFA at the Emergency Services Foundations International Women's Day Event with Dany Cotton.
Dany Cotton was the first female Fire Chief of the London Fire Brigade.
Congratulations Lauren on this amazing opportunity and we look forward to hearing about the extended conversation that was had.
Below is the blurb from the ESF and link to the recorded Video

Another key highlight of the day was a prerecorded conversation with British retired fire Chief Dany Cotton. Erika Lind (FFMVic), Natalie Kenely (SES), Lauren McCully (CFA), and Michelle Cowling (FRV) had the opportunity to virtually speak with Dany to learn about her personal experiences as first female commissioner of the London Fire Brigade and the difficulties she had to overcome along the way. From the moment she decided to become a firefighter, Dany faced resistance and was often told she couldn’t succeed simply because she was a girl – a challenge that only strengthened her determination to pursue her dream. She encouraged young female first responders in training to “be the best you can be in your job” and to seize every opportunity that comes their way.

Dany also emphasised the vital role of mentorship, stressing the importance of having someone trustworthy to guide and support you through similar experiences. Looking to the future, she shared her vision: “I want people to bring the whole of themselves to work without having to hide or mask who you are, and without being treated unfairly or differently because of who you are.”

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
