Today is Wear It Purple Day, and teams across Northeast Health Wangaratta are adding a little purple to their day to show their support for LGBTQIA+SB young people.

This year's official theme, โ€˜Colours of Courageโ€™, recognises the many ways courage can look - sometimes it's speaking up and standing up for others, and sometimes it's the quieter courage of being yourself, asking for support or simply making someone feel welcome.

Our staff have been getting involved across the hospital, showing that creating safe, inclusive spaces is something we can all contribute to in our everyday work.

A big thank you to the staff who have added a splash of purple to their day and helped us mark Wear It Purple Day.

This week we are recognising the 77 dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteers who help NHW deliver around 200 meals each week to people across our community.

Meals on Wheels provides much more than nutritious food. Each delivery also brings connection, care and a friendly face at the door, helping local people remain independent and connected at home.

Our volunteers are at the heart of this service, generously giving their time to support others and brighten someoneโ€™s day.

As we celebrate Meals on Wheels Day, we are also calling on more community members to consider joining our volunteer team.

You do not need any special skills. Just a few hours to spare and a willingness to connect with people can make a meaningful difference.

To learn more about becoming a Meals on Wheels volunteer, contact Northeast Health Wangaratta.

This Speech Pathology Week, we are celebrating the life-changing work of NHWโ€™s 14 speech pathologists, who deliver more than 100 therapy sessions each week across our hospital and community services.

For local grandfather Brett Richards and his grandchildren, Lenny Hill, 4, and Stella Hill, 6, speech pathology has become a shared journey across two generations.

After suffering a stroke in November 2025 and losing his ability to speak, Brett began working with NHWโ€™s speech pathology team. Through regular therapy and practice, he has been able to rebuild his communication skills and regain his speech.

At the same time, Community Speech Pathologist Stacey Harris was supporting Lenny and Stella to improve their enunciation and speech clarity.

The family took the strategies they learned in the clinic home, practising together, encouraging one another and helping each other grow in confidence.

Speech pathologists support people of all ages with speech, language, literacy, voice, fluency, social communication and swallowing difficulties.

During Speech Pathology Week, from 23 to 29 August, we thank our speech pathology team for helping members of our community communicate, connect and participate more fully in everyday life

This Research Week, weโ€™re celebrating the important role research plays in improving health and wellbeing for our community.

Research helps us ask better questions, discover new approaches and continually improve the care and services we provide. From clinical research and trials to innovation and quality improvement, every project contributes to building a stronger, healthier future for our region.

Research is about more than data and discoveries, itโ€™s about people. It helps us understand what our community needs and ensures the care we provide continues to evolve.

This week, we recognise and celebrate the staff, researchers, clinicians, participants and partners who contribute to research at NHW and help turn ideas into meaningful change.
