Wangi Wangi is famous for its associations with artist William Dobell. Known locally just as 'Wangi', Wangi Wangi is a holiday resort town in the City of Lake Macquarie, situated on a long, narrow peninsula which juts out from the western shore of the lake. It is situated 121 km north of Sydney and 4 m above sea-level. Including Rathmines, to the north, the population (of the area) is 6343 (1986 f

igures). Being so close to the lake, the major drawcards for visitors are fishing, swimming, boating, picnics , camping and the general scenic value of the area. Once occupied by the Awabakal Aborigines the locality was referred to as Wonde Wonde on an 1826 map. Edward Gostwyck Cory of Paterson became the first European settler when he selected 500 acres here in 1829 but he did little with it. The readily observable approach of peoples along the narrow neck apparently made the peninsula popular with cattle thieves at one time. A thermal power station opened in 1958, now closed. Myuna Colliery opened in 1981 to supply coal to Eraring Power Station.

๐Ÿš— HAVE YOUR SAY ON DORA CREEK INTERSECTION PLAN
๐Ÿš— Transport for NSW is seeking feedback on (very, very) long-awaited plans to fix the Dora Creek intersection near the train station.
๐Ÿš— As you can see in the pic below and on the link, the plan includes traffic lights and a realignment of the main road so that it's less of a blind bend coming off the bridge.
๐Ÿš— I have my own thoughts on this plan (generally good but I have issues with the 'no stopping' zone outside the shops), but this is about you having your say on the design.
๐Ÿš— Putting your thoughts here in the comments section go nowhere. If you want your opinion counted, click through on this link and make your voice heard: https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/current-projects/main-road-intersection-upgrade-dora-creek
๐Ÿš— The consultation period will close on December 16.

Enjoying a beautiful sunny day in Wangi today at the WANGI RSL checking out some local talent Danny Young at 3:45 pm or there abouts I was witness to the last https://www.facebook.com/lakemacferry/ leaving the Wangi wharf and I felt a sence of loss for not only myself but also for the community. Then Half a dozen people on the table behind me all stood up an waved it on it's journey. I was already a little sad about the loss of a great community service but I think that, that is a great example of how the community thought of the ferry. I personally will be petitioning both the and Tourism NSW to provide some funding for this essential service
