One of our Central Coast volunteers Eloise recently travelled to Merriwa Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue NSW, taking part in a search and rescue training course, for VRA Rescue NSW newly established mounted search and rescue capability. This capability is designed to assist NSW Police Force in future missing person searches across open country, rural properties, bushland and hard to access locations. The capability will complement VRA Rescue NSW Search Dogs in future search operations where terrain, distance and access can create real challenges for emergency responders.

Central Coast Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue NSW is privileged to have volunteers from all walks of life, all with different skills that can be utilised in the search and rescue field. If this looks like something you'd be interested, in please reach out for further information on joining!

Today, on Thank a First Responder Day, we acknowledge the dedicated volunteers and emergency service personnel who stand ready to assist their communities at a moment's notice.

Whether responding to emergencies, supporting community events, or assisting those in need, first responders are there when their communities need them most. Their commitment, professionalism and willingness to serve make a real difference every day.

At Central Coast Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue NSW, we're proud to stand alongside our emergency service partners across the state and thank every volunteer and professional first responder for the work they do in service of their communities.

We were invited to Lake Munmorah Public School this morning as part of their Thank A First Responder Day. We attended alongside our usual emergency service partners of NSW Police, NSW Ambulance, NSW RFS and F+R NSW.

To all first responders, thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and your unwavering commitment to helping others.

Attached are a few pictures of our volunteers in action, often working alongside other emergency services!

Recently we had five of our new members participate in a five day course held on the Central Coast and at Cessnock. For the first two days, participants were training at our HQ in Warnervale, focussing on foundational rescue skills. The final three days were at Cessnock for training and assessment in road crash rescue. All new members have put in numerous hours of training to get to this point, and are now able to respond to call outs to assist our community.

If this looks interesting and the sort of thing that you would be keen to get involved in, then please reach out. We are always looking for new members!

NSW Road Crash Rescue Challenge!!

Over the weekend, three of our volunteers travelled to Dubbo to compete in the 2026 NSW Road Crash Rescue Challenge. Our volunteers joined several others from squads in region east, competing and being assessed on a number of different rescue scenarios! It was also a great learning experience as there were a number of symposiums by subject matter experts from other agencies.

We are very proud to announce that our members placed third in the CPR Challenge! It's a testament to their countless hours of training and practical experience!

A massive shoutout to the event organisers, volunteers, and support personnel who made this event a success! Please see a small selection of photos of our team at the competition.

Recently our members familiarised themselves with our two 4WD vehicles, spending time in Ourimbah State Forest and on Tuggerah Beach!

As one of only a few services that have a 4WD road crash rescue equiped vehicle, it is important that all our members train in driving off road on different terrain. Our response area includes large swathes of state forests, national parks, and beaches, often only accessible by 4WD.

Training covered:
*Vehicle familiarisation including strengths and weaknesses for both vehicles
*4WD techniques such as tyre pressures, diff lock use, etc
*Recovery techniques including recovery boards, sn**ch strap recovery, single and double line winch pulls, etc
*Line selection and communication techniques
*Ascending and descending
*Driving on a variety of terrains including rock, sand, and mud

Many thanks to Central Coast Council for allowing us access to the beach!
