🦘⚽ National Simultaneous Storytime is one of our favourite days on the library calendar, and yesterday was no exception!

This year, we read 'Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller' by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd, cheering on Luna as she found her courage, backed herself and trusted her teammates on the field.

Across our libraries and out in the community, we shared the story with our wonderful Story Time families, schools, early learning centres and kinders. It was such a joy to see everyone come together to celebrate the magic of sharing a story at the same time as children all across Australia.

A huge thank you to our very special guest readers: Tamara from Drouin CFA, Dr Karen McConalogue, Evie from Inverloch Stars Soccer Club, local soccer coach and player Sam Sherry, Cr Scott Rae, Cr Alanna Pomeroy, Cr Tracey Bell, Marg Boyer from U3A Valley, Cr Trish Jones and comedian Tim Smith.

And of course, thank you to our wonderful staff, who put so much hard work into making this special day such a success. You are all amazing!

☕ Wonthaggi Library recently hosted a wonderful Coffee with a Cop session with the Bass Coast Proactive Policing Unit.

It was an informative morning of tea, coffee, biscuits and great conversation, with around 30 community members coming along to ask questions and share concerns. We were also pleased to welcome two local disability groups, who enjoyed the chance to connect with others in the community and take part in the discussion.

Thank you to the Bass Coast Proactive Policing Unit for joining us, and to everyone who came along and contributed to such a valuable morning.

📖 What was on your weekend reading list?

This gripping new thriller from Dervla McTiernan had a few of the Myli team hooked over the weekend. It's perfect for readers who like a page-turner with plenty of tension, secrets and twists.

This National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating the incredible volunteers who give their time, skills and care to support our communities.

Today, Leongatha Library welcomed SES Leongatha Unit Controller Matt for a very special StoryTime. Families learned all about the important work SES volunteers do, from responding to floods and storms to helping with road crashes, search and rescue, and more.

Our little emergency responders dressed up in orange vests and SES helmets before receiving an important call: Paddy the Platypus was lost in the library and needed their help! After a successful search and rescue mission, the children explored the SES rescue truck, saw the lights flashing, and headed back inside to create emergency-themed craft puppets and pop-up rescue trucks.

It was a wonderful hands-on way to learn about emergency services and the amazing people who volunteer to keep our communities safe.

A big thank you to Matt, the SES Leongatha Unit, and all volunteers who make such a difference in our community every day.

Thanks to our IT team member Zac, the new Nintendo Switch is now installed and ready to enjoy in the Teen Room at Drouin Library. He assures us that if he was spotted playing games during installation, it was purely for testing purposes… 😂
