Utter devastation πŸ’”

This scary image shows what lithium-ion batteries can do to your house when they overheat and explode πŸ’₯

An Upwey family very sadly lost their home last month after a lithium-ion battery on charge caught fire and tore through the property within minutes. Firefighters later discovered the device was being charged with an incompatible charger.

In a concerning trend, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters are responding to around one fire each day caused by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.

To minimise the risk of a lithium-ion battery fire:
πŸ”Œ Use chargers and cords that are originally supplied with that device.
πŸ”‡ Only charge items in rooms with smoke alarms.
⚑ Avoid charging on soft locations such as couches, beds and carpets.
❌ Never use batteries or devices that show signs of swelling or bulging, leaking or overheating.
🀝 Buy products from a trusted supplier.

πŸ‘ Well done Benalla Brigade. This is a fantastic resource for our area.

From 27 May 2026, Benalla CFA will be live and operational in the Fire Medical Response program.
You may see both a fire truck and an ambulance at medical emergencies β€” it simply means our volunteers are using new skills in our toolbox to deliver early CPR and defibrillation while Ambulance Victoria is on the way.
These capabilities strengthen the chain of survival, and your safety remains our priority.
Please continue to call Triple Zero (000) for all medical emergencies.

Today we farewelled John Collyer. A dedicated volunteer who did so much for our community. RIP John
