Weave Youth & Community Services

Weave Youth & Community Services Weave is a place-based, community-led organisation based on Gadigal and Bidjigal lands in Sydney. www.weave.org.au

We support children, young people, women, families and communities who face complex social issues, and are impacted by systemic disadvantage. Weave began in 1976, when a group of local Aboriginal women in Redfern/Waterloo advocated for services, activities and support for local young people. Our diverse range of programs have been designed to help tackle issues related to poverty, homelessness, do

mestic violence and abuse, mental health, alcohol and drug misuse, family breakdown, relationship issues, discrimination and the impacts of intergenerational trauma and significant social and systemic disadvantage. Our sites are located on Gadigal and Bidjigal Land with offices in Waterloo, Woolloomooloo and Malabar, Sydney.

This EOFY you can support our life-changing programs like the Weave Kool Kids Program by making a one-off or regular donation. Your generous contribution goes directly to supporting children, young people and families to thrive.

The Weave Kool Kids Program provides therapeutic programs, mentoring and casework support for children, young people and families in South East Sydney. Through long-term support and skills-based activities, children and young people (aged 7-18) have opportunities to build confidence, strengthen connections to culture and identity and become leaders in their communities.

Thank you for being a part of the Weave community and supporting our work. As we mark 50 Years of Weave this year, we celebrate the many people who have made Weave what it is today - every single client, community member, staff member, Board member, volunteer, supporter, donor, collaborator and partner is a vital and valued part of the Weave story.

Weave Youth & Community Services is a place-based organisation located on unceded Gadigal and Bidjigal Lands in Sydney, with a deep and long-standing commitment to the communities we walk alongside. Our purpose is to support individual and collective wellbeing and healing in the communities we walk alongside.

Our place-based approach, combined with long-term commitment and continuity of care, enables Weave to deliver effective, community-centred programs and services. Over five decades, we have developed a deep understanding of local issues, extensive stakeholder relationships and strong intergenerational connections.

Weave’s work is grounded in a belief that transformative change takes time, and that meaningful progress is only possible through relationships based on trust, humility and shared learning. Our work is focused on breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma and building community capacity. As we look to the future, we remain committed to listening to what our communities need from us in the face of ever-evolving circumstances.

Thank you for your ongoing support, generosity and collaboration. There have been so many people over the years who have walked alongside us on this incredible journey. We can’t thank you enough for being one of those people.

'Waterloo Girls Centre - The Shop'

During renovations of our Weave Women & Children's Centre in 2022, we discovered some very special artworks created by clients and community members dating back to the 1990s and 2000s.

Weave Women & Children's Centre, based on Gadigal Land, has always been a safe place for women and children. Originally known as 'The Waterloo Girls Centre and The Shop Women & Children's Centre', the centre became part of Weave in 2006 (then South Sydney Youth Services).

Today, Weave Women & Children's Centre provides intensive wrap-around support for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence and abuse and other complex issues. We celebrate the incredible women and children in the Redfern and Waterloo community through community events and projects that honour their stories, leadership and the important role they play in keeping families, culture and community strong.

For the last 50 years Weave has delivered place-based, community-centred work that supports individual and collective wellbeing and healing in the communities we walk alongside. You can support our life-changing programs by making a donation. Every contribution creates meaningful impact and we are deeply grateful for the generosity of our supporters. You can make a donation here: https://weave.raiselysite.com/

“To flourish, we need to be nurtured, respected and valued. Weave does all of that for young people in the South Sydney area. But it provides much much more – educational and family support, instruction in getting a driver’s licence, programs to develop skills, help when people need support in surviving in tough times. The Weave team – the staff, volunteers and Board – are some of the most dedicated, selfless, generous people I have ever had anything to do with. I have felt inspired by them and their work.” – Hugh Dillon, long-term Weave supporter and volunteer

We are so grateful to our community of supporters, like Hugh, who are a vital and valued part of Weave's impact.

This year, we are celebrating a significant milestone - 50 Years of Weave. 2026 marks half a century of showing up with and for communities and supporting individual and collective wellbeing and healing. That’s half a century of being place-based and deeply connected to our community-centred origins.

“Young people are not the leaders of the future but are the leaders of now.” - Jahin

Youth Week runs from 16–26 April 2026 and is a celebration of young people coming together in their communities to connect, express themselves and have their voices heard. This year’s theme is “Dream. Dare. Do”, encouraging young people to be creative, be courageous and take steps toward their goals.

Over our 50 year history at Weave, we have consistently witnessed the inspiring advocacy, creativity, strength, talent and leadership of young people in the communities we walk alongside.

Our holistic range of programs provide:
- wrap-around support for young people facing challenges including poverty, lack of access to opportunities, homelessness, racism and discrimination
- holistic support for young people impacted by mental health and drug and alcohol issues
- tailored support for young people leaving prison or involved in the criminal justice system
- support to obtain a driver’s licence
- opportunities for young people to build skills and confidence, strengthen connections to community, culture and identity and become leaders and role models in their communities

“Even though it’s taken me so long I’m so glad that I’ve finally got my licence. It was an amazing journey, and it’s inspired me to do so much more with my life. I can get to work and I’m now enrolled in uni to do nursing. I have my wings now, I can fly.” – Driving Change Program client
