A local permit officer 🧑‍🚒will contact you once we have received the request. Once the permit has been authorised you will need to fill out a burn notification and include details of the permit. You will need to give 24 hours notice of your intention to burn and notify your neighbours.

A Fire Permit is required for burning activities during the Bush Fire Danger Period in Rural Fire districts and at all times in Fire and Rescue districts around the state. 🔥 FIRE PERMITS NOW REQUIRED 🔥

From today, Fire Permits are now required before undertaking burning activities within the Bush Fire Danger Period - Mid Coast and Port Macquarie Hastings LGAs.

If you’re planning to burn, remember:

- Obtain your permit before lighting up
- Notify the RFS and adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours before you light up
- Check weather conditions and the Fire Danger Rating
- Ensure you have adequate firefighting equipment and supervision over the burn
🚫 Never burn during a Total Fire Ban
📞 If your fire escapes, call Triple Zero (000) immediately

Fire permits are free and help ensure burning is carried out safely to protect our community.

🔥BUSH FIRE DANGER PERIOD BEGINS 1 SEPTEMBER🔥

The NSW Rural Fire Service has declared the start of the Bush Fire Danger Period for the Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings Local Government Areas from Tuesday, 1 September 2026.

After a dry winter and with warmer-than-average conditions forecast for spring, fire risk is increasing across the area.

Now is the time to prepare your homes and property.

- Have a conversation with your family
- Check your bush fire survival plan
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters
- Remove flammable materials from around your home
- Make sure hoses can reach all sides of your property
- Check your property and prepare for increased fire danger

🔥 Planning to burn?

From 1 September, a Fire Permit and notification will be required for all burning activities in the Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings areas.

Remember:

- Notify your neighbours and local fire authorities at least 24 hours before lighting up
- Check current and forecast weather conditions
- Have adequate firefighting equipment and water available
- Never leave a fire unattended
- Never burn when conditions are unsafe

🔥 A reminder as we head into the upcoming fire season 🔥

Please keep drones away from bush and grass fires.

If a drone is operating near a fire, firefighting aircraft will be unable to safely operate, impacting our ability to support crews on the ground and protect the community.

Evening update.. The forestry Hazard Reduction 🔥 has been extended out along the Old Highway and Nine trees Rd there is significant smoke in the area and as well as a large glow visible from Bago Rd. Forestry Corp will have several fire units 🚒 patrolling until Midnight.

Most people will never understand it.

They’ll see the truck go by. They’ll hear the sirens. They’ll assume someone is there to take care of it.

And most of the time… they’re right. But what they don’t see is everything behind that moment.

The interrupted dinners. The missed time with family. The early mornings after late nights. The second thoughts… and the decision to go anyway.

They don’t see the quiet conversations after a tough call.

Or the ones who sit in their trucks for a minute before going back inside. Or the people who wonder if they’re doing enough… and still keep showing up.

This has never been about being perfect. It’s never been about having more time than anyone else. It’s about choosing to be part of something bigger… even when it’s inconvenient. Even when it’s hard. Even when nobody is watching.

That’s the heart of a volunteer.

And they still choose to show up!
