Our people have been hard at work in Melbourne.

6/10 Health Support Company has recently completed a series of training activities practicing patient movement and treatment from Point of Injury to Role 1 and Role 2 care. Scenarios utilised local infrastructure and assets at Oakleigh Barracks, and were a great success.

Clinicians have also been instructing and assessing on a number of Combat First Aider-Recertification courses in partnership with the 4th Brigade. This increases combat unit self-sufficiency in the field through development and certification of life-saving medical skillsets which increase unit capabilities.

3 HB Family

As we enter a major exercise period we know that having your loved ones away from home can be stressful and difficult. This period will see many of our members deployed into the field with minimal or no access to phones, internet, or other communication methods. Please know that we are always here to support, and in an emergency, we are able to get in contact with your loved ones through our Battalion duty system:

3 HB Duty Officer - 0429 360 295

We also encourage all family and friends utilise the following support services should the need arise over the exercise period:

3 HB Padre - 0408 163 257
Defence Member and Family Support (DMFS) - 1800 624 608 or [email protected]
Open Arms - 1800 011 046

Thank you for your ongoing support to our members, they could not do what they do, without you.

Melbourne based clinicians from 3 HB recently participated in a Foundation Warfighting and Tactical Combat Casualty Care skills training weekend.

Braving the cold Puckapunyal winter weather, the team practiced Platoon sized dismounted operations to secure and occupy a harbour, patrol their region, and dislocate and defeat adversary forces. Reinforcing their resilience, individual & team skills, and understanding that every Soldier and Officer can contribute to fighting and winning in the land domain.

Members also practiced their TCCC micro-skills while under fatigue demonstrating their ability to deliver life-saving care in challenging operational environments.

How good are dogs!?

The Unit recently conducted Military Working Dog Tactical Combat Casualty Care training, run by veterinary officers from 3 HB and externally. This training upskilled approximately 30 medics, nurses and dog handlers, improving knowledge on canine care in the field environment.

The training provided an excellent opportunity to integrate with our friends at SAPOL and 24 Squadron.

Our Environmental Health teams recently received training in snake handling, ensuring they are best placed to manage any nope ropes that join our people on operations or exercises.

The Inland Taipan, Red Belly and Python had a tour of Operational Support Company, and were a big hit amongst (most of) our people.

The Unit recently deployed a team in support of Operation Render Safe where we established Role 1 and Role 2 health teams. Both were in support of the multinational contingent working together to remove explosive remnants of war.

The Role 2, with a downscaled team, was poised to provide real-time damage control resuscitation, surgery, radiology and pathology. The Role 1 deployed into a region where the roads and terrain had a significant impact on the ability to conduct surface evacuation. They were lucky enough to work with international partners and experience a multitude of opportunities to train and upskill.
