🚴‍♂️ MTB TRAIL UPDATE: Early Planning Stages Underway! 🚴‍♀️
We’ve got an exciting update for the local riding community! ⛰️
The Mount Arthur Reserve team is thrilled to announce that we are teaming up with Nick from Destination Trails Pty Ltd and the Dubbo Mountain Bike Club to kick off the formal planning and site assessment process for our MTB network! 🛠️

Getting these trails officially resanctioned, sustainable, and up to modern safety standards is a major goal, and having expert trail auditors and grassroots support from the local club is the first big step in getting there.

How Riders can Help!
Get Involved: Contact the Mount Arthur Reserve at [email protected] or Dubbo Mount Bike Club at [email protected] to see how you can help out.

Stay Off the Tracks: Please do not ride the pre-existing trails as they are still currently closed while we work through this process.

A massive thank you to Destination Trails and the Dubbo MTB Club for hitting the ground running with us on site. We will keep you all updated as soon as we have more official news to share. Stay tuned! 🙌

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
we will remember them..
Today we remember not just history, but people.
Men and women, many from towns just like ours, who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today
Their stories live on through our history, our community, and our hearts.

Lest we forget.

🚨 We interrupt our scheduled social media break to bring you a very important message, please share this with your friends today.

🔥 With heatwave conditions being described as the worst since Black Saturday across many parts of Australia this week, it’s critical that we look out for our birds and wildlife.

When extreme heat lasts for days on end, birds struggle to cope. They can’t turn on a tap or escape into air-conditioning, they rely on us.

💧 You can help by:
• Putting out a shallow dish of water in the shade
• Adding a stick or stone so small birds can safely climb out
• Topping up bird baths regularly so water stays cool
• Keeping water out of reach of cats, as heat-stressed birds are easy prey

If it’s too hot for us, it’s too hot for birds.
This simple action could save a life. 🐦💙

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs Marion Dawson last week. Marion was a member of the Mt Arthur Reserve Trust for 35 years and Mt Arthur benefited from her intellect and tenacity. The Reserve was an important place to her.

In 2014 the Mt Arthur Trust celebrated its 50th anniversary with a number of events – the Mt Arthur Challenge running/cycling event; a Mt Arthur Reserve photo competition encouraging people to get out in the reserve to explore, enjoy and showcase it’s beauty; and an anniversary dinner celebrating the long history of volunteer management of the Reserve. Marion was very enthusiastic about these events and contributed a great deal to the organising of the photo competition and the dinner. To her surprise, the Trust made a special presentation to her at the dinner, acknowledging her lengthy period of service to the Mt Arthur Reserve. We again share the speech made by the Trust secretary that evening in 2014, in honor of Marion:

“It is my great pleasure to be able to make the following presentation to a special member of our Trust.

This year [2014] Marion Dawson clocks up 30 years as a member of the Mt Arthur Trust. Marion grew up on the edge of what is now the Reserve and explored the area with her siblings as a child.

When Marion became a Wellington Shire Councillor in 1984 an opportunity arose for her to be the Wellington Council ex-officio representative on the Trust, a position she held for 17 years. When she was not longer a Councillor she applied for a community member position on the Trust, where she has continued to serve ever since.

Since the Reserve was gazetted in 1964 it has almost doubled in size and is now over 2000ha. Many of those additions were thanks to Marion’s efforts, and there is at least one old chairman’s report in the Trust files praising her excellent negotiation skills in this regard. I remember a few years ago when we were debating the likely success of a fairly bold funding request, Mike Augee commented – ‘But we have a secret weapon – we have a Marion’.

Marion continues to be a very valuable member of the Trust. We can always rely on her to be able to fill us in on the activities of the Trust from before the rest of us were members.

Without Marion’s efforts we would have been unlikely to gain all the prize donors that we did for the Mt Arthur Photo Competition. $1400 in cash prizes were donated by local businesses and other Mt Arthur supporters, and a large proportion of these donations were secured by Marion.

And above all, Marion is very good company.

So on behalf of the Mt Arthur Trust I would like to say a big thank you Marion, and we hope to serve on the Trust with you for many years yet”.

Our sincere condolences to Marion’s family at this sad time.
