Spring is the ideal time to head out to state forests to replenish firewood stocks for next winter.

Firewood collection areas are now open and maps are online - https://www.ffm.vic.gov.au/firewood/find-a-firewood-collection-area

If you rely on firewood for heating and cooking plan ahead and organise your collection now.

We want you to have a good time, but is very important that when collecting firewood you do it safely.

This means understanding the conditions in the forest, ensuring you have the right equipment and checking weather conditions before you go.

Remember:
🚧 Check daily fire conditions and road closures before travelling to collection areas.
🔥 Firewood collection rules and limits apply – please do the right thing and follow them. Penalties apply for those caught breaking the rules.
💲 Financial assistance is available for people on low incomes who rely on firewood as their sole source of heating and buy firewood: www.ffm.vic.gov.au/firewood/energy-concession-and-support or https://services.dffh.vic.gov.au/non-mains-energy-concession

📍 This Wednesday 2 September from 1.00 to 2.00pm, South Gippsland Shire Councillors are holding a community drop-in session at the Old Ferry Terminal Building in Port Welshpool.

Works have been completed on the new Port Welshpool pontoon and it is now open to the public, marking an exciting step forward for the local boating community and a major upgrade to one of South Gippsland’s most popular boating destinations!

Providing vital access to the renowned waters of Corner Inlet, the Port Welshpool boating precinct features a three-lane boat ramp and users can now make the most of a brand-new concrete pontoon and upgraded gangway.

A Hansa C Crane will be installed in the coming months to improve accessibility and ensure people of all abilities can enjoy getting out on the water.

⚠️ Telstra will be undertaking works on the Great Southern Rail Trail 2km east of Welshpool, commencing Monday 27 July. The repairs are expected to take about one week.

🚶‍♂️ Rail Trail users may experience minor delays - 5-10 minutes - during this time. Please take care when passing through the area.

🌿 Happy travels along the Great Southern Rail Trail!

Are you looking for funding for new equipment or a project?
Come along to the Welshpool RTC this Friday 24th July to chat with a grants officer from the South Gippsland Shire Council. They will be able to answer any questions you may have about applying for a council grant. No appointments necessary, just call in between 11am-3pm.
