If you own property in Foster, Tarwin Lower, Sandy Point, Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Port Franklin, Toora, Welshpool or Port Welshpool, a letter may have recently dropped in your letterbox about proposed new flood planning controls.

Draft Amendment C135 affects around 2,600 properties across South Gippsland, and the community reaction has been immediate. Some residents are worried about property values and insurance. Others are questioning the accuracy of the mapping. Council says the overlays are about transparency, not about stopping people from building, but the experience of Loch Sport in neighbouring Wellington Shire shows why people are paying close attention.

Community information sessions are running across the shire through June, and written submissions are open until 5pm on Monday 6 July. You can search your own address using the interactive mapping tool at southgippsland.vic.gov.au/C135.

JUST A FARMER - FREE COMMUNITY EVENT

Join Looking Good Feeling Good for mental health in the free screening of Just A Farmer at the Yarram Regent Theatre on Saturday 23rd May 2026

‘Just a Farmer' is a compelling and deeply personal film, telling the story of the often-unseen challenges faced by farmers and their families. It shines a light on the importance of mental health support in rural communities like ours, where sometimes it's difficult to have the conversations that matter most.
This event is an opportunity for us to come together, reflect, and continue fostering a culture of care and awareness around mental health in the agricultural sector and beyond.
Guest Speaker: Warren Davies - The Unbreakable Farmer

🚪Doors open: 6:30pm

🎥Film Screening: 7pm

🥨Nibbles & refreshments: 8:30pm

⁉️Q&A session: 8:30pm

While this is a free event, registrations are essential to ensure availability of seating and catering. See the Eventbrite page to register and for more information:
