At around 9.30am this morning, NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW Firefighters responded to reports of a house fire at Werombi. On arrival, significant volumes of smoke were issuing from the house with active fire within the ground floor garage area.

Firefighters quickly commenced fire suppression operations as well as conducted an internal search to confirm no persons remained inside the building. The fire was contained within approx 30 minutes, limiting fire spread, significantly reducing damage, and preventing total loss of the home. Firefighters remain on scene to ventilate the building and ensure extinguishment.

Firefighters were supported at this incident by NSW Police Force and NSW Ambulance. This fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Congratulations to two of our members, Aiden & Liam, on recently completing their Village Firefighter (VF) qualifications.

VF qualifications demonstrate an ability to adequately negotiate structure fires defensively, car fires, gas fire scenarios in addition to providing additional support capabilities beyond bushfire skills. Congratulations Aiden & Liam!

Car Fire - Werombi

Crews from our brigade and Silverdale Rural Fire Brigade have responded to a car fire on the intersection of Werombi Road and Theresa View Road. No persons were trapped or injured. The roads remain open but could close intermittently. Please drive slowly in the area.

Community AED Project: Wollondilly Shire Council have recently installed an AED on the side of our station. This AED is available for the community given our remoteness to medical services, and was kindly donated by the Chamber of Commerce.
Use of an Automated External Defibrillator can significantly improve the odds from sudden cardiac arrest.

Recently one of our members, Adam Small participated in the NSW RFS Fire Behaviour Analyst (FBAN) Course at the NSW RFS Training Academy in Dubbo

FBANs play a vital role in supporting Incident Management Teams by analysing weather, fuel, and terrain conditions to predict fire behaviour. Using specialised modelling tools, they test potential fire scenarios and provide clear, time-based advice to planners and Incident Controllers, helping inform critical operational decisions.

Throughout the course, participants strengthened their skills in interpreting fire behaviour models, understanding uncertainty, and communicating complex information through concise briefings and mapping products. A key message reinforced throughout the training was that models are decision-support tools—not answers—and that professional judgement remains essential.

The course also highlighted the value of collaboration and shared learning, with knowledge and experience exchanged across agencies and jurisdictions.

👏 Well done Adam, and we look forward to you enhancing the capability of our station and collective preparedness across the wider Orangeville community

Grass/Scrub Fire - Werombi

Our brigade, along with The Oaks Rural Fire Brigade, Silverdale Rural Fire Brigade,Theresa Park Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 489 Warragamba were called to an escaped burn this afternoon in Werombi.

Upon arrival, the fire was threatening neighbouring properties on one flank, and had downed power lines and jumping the roadway on another.

The fire was able to be quickly contained due to the fast and effective coordination of our brigades and the assistance of an adjacent property owner. No structures were lost.

NSW RFS Southern Highlands

The Official Bush Fire Danger Period will conclude at midnight tomorrow (31 March 2026) for the Wingecarribee Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council LGA's.

From Wednesday 1 April, fire permits will no longer be required for residents, except those properties within the town limits of Warragamba, Picton, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bowral and Bundanoon, who are required to obtain a fire permit from Fire & Rescue NSW all year round.

Even though a fire permit is no longer required, you must still notify your neighbours and the local fire authority 24 hours before burning as well as comply with any Council Backyard Burning Policies.

Before lighting up, you should also check the forecast weather conditions and have sufficient equipment on hand to control and contain the fire to your own property. Failure to notify neighbours or the RFS, or allowing a fire to escape can result in significant fines.

To notify of your intent to burn, use the online burn notification tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or call your local Fire Control Centre during business hours.
