🚔 ILLEGALLY MODIFIED BIKES DETECTED 🚔

Today, Westgate Highway Patrol intercepted two young riders operating illegally modified mountain bikes on public roads.

One bike had been converted to electric power, while the other was fitted with a combustion engine. While officers acknowledged the impressive mechanical effort involved, these vehicles are not designed or approved for use on our roads.

On this occasion, both riders were issued official warnings, and their parents were relieved to avoid fines that could have exceeded $2,000.

⚠️ A reminder that riders who attempt to evade police may face significant penalties, including significant fines, vehicle impoundment or crushing.

Our concern is safety. Modified bicycles can reach speeds and operate in ways they were never designed for, increasing the risk of serious injury to riders and other road users.

Parents, guardians and friends - please keep an eye on the vehicles young people are riding and ensure they understand the road rules before heading out.

We would much rather have a conversation today than deliver bad news tomorrow.

Tell me you’re in trouble without telling me you’re in trouble… 👀

This morning Westgate HWP attended Fitzgerald Rd when a semi-trailer decided it no longer believed in being towed.

Turns out Newton was right:
An object in motion stays in motion…
especially when the safety pin isn’t locked in and apparently decides to go on annual leave.

After 15 tonnes of material introduced itself to the roadway, crews worked safely to clear the scene.

Westgate HWP apologises for any delays and would like to remind all motorists to:
✔️ Check your load
✔️ Check your trailer
✔️ CHECK YOUR SAFETY PIN

Because physics always wins. 🚛💨

From Auckland to Werribee: Meet First Constable Jordan 👮‍♂️

After two years policing in Counties Manukau East - working across family violence incidents, road policing and frontline policing - Jordan decided it was time for a new challenge.

Following a visit to Melbourne for a family event, he decided that the challenge was to cross the Tasman Sea and move to Victoria.

“I loved the culture, the food, the people and the vibes. I wanted to experience something new and get out of my comfort zone,” Jordan said.

He notes the Academy experience as a highlight so far, especially the friendships and instructors who made learning engaging and relatable.

His biggest challenges?
“Being away from family and friends, the cold weather, understanding Australian accents and no good meat pies!” (Clearly, he hasn’t tried a Four'N Twenty pie at the footy – just sayin’.)

Now settling into policing in Victoria, Jordan is keen to continue developing his skills on the road, with future goals of working in the Proactive Policing Unit or the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).

Off shift, you’ll find him outdoors, attending community events, watching or playing rugby, or enjoying a nice bourbon with mates.

Welcome to Victoria Police, Jordan 👏
