Excellent meeting in Perth with Prof. Jessica Dempsey, new Director-General of the SKA Observatory, the world’s largest and most powerful radio telescope network (SKA Observatory).

🇮🇹 Italy is one of SKAO’s founding members and has played a significant role in the project since its early stages, through INAF - the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF - Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica) and the contribution of Italian scientific and industrial expertise.

Here in Western Australia, this cooperation has a very tangible dimension: Italian company SIRIO Antenne, working with INAF and CNR-IEIIT, has contributed to the development of the SKALA antennas and to the production of antennas for SKA-Low.

A remarkable global scientific endeavour - and another strong connection between Italy and Western Australia, bringing together research, advanced technology and industry to explore the Universe. 🇮🇹🇦🇺🔭

⚽️🇮🇹🇦🇺 A great pleasure to attend the Derby d’Italia between Juventus and Inter at Optus Stadium in Perth, as part of Calcio Italiano – Only in Perth, together with Alessandro Del Piero Alessandro Del Piero, Michele Ciccarese, Michele Ciccarese Chief Commercial & Marketing Officer of Lega Serie A; Marco Assorati, Senior Executive Vice President at Webuild, one of Italy’s leading global infrastructure groups and a major player in Australia; and Guido Cacciaguerra, Vice President BD Infrastructures WeBuild.

🇮🇹 8 August – National Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Workers in the World

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the tragedy of Marcinelle.

On 8 August 1956, 262 miners of 12 different nationalities lost their lives at the Bois du Cazier mine in Belgium. Among them were 136 Italians.

Seventy years later, Italy continues to honour their memory and that of all Italian workers who lost their lives while working abroad. Since 2001, 8 August has been observed as the National Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Workers in the World, which this year marks its 25th anniversary.

In his message for today’s commemoration, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani recalled the sacrifice of Marcinelle and the contribution of generations of Italian workers around the world.

Here in Western Australia, this remembrance has a special place in our community. A commemorative tradition was launched in Perth in 2021 by the Consulate of Italy and the Committee of Italians in Western Australia (COMITES), at the Vasto Memorial in East Perth.

Tomorrow at 10.30 am, we will gather again at Lake Vasto to honour those who left Italy in search of a better future, the contribution of generations of Italian migrants to Western Australia, and especially those who paid the highest price through their work.

The Vasto Memorial itself stands as a lasting testament to the Italian presence in Western Australia and to the friendship between Italy and Australia.

Remembering Marcinelle means keeping alive their sacrifice, their courage and their dignity. 🇮🇹

⚽🇮🇹 Football legends. Shared values. Stronger partnerships.

The Legends Lunch brought together more than 300 guests in Perth, celebrating the arrival of Calcio Italiano – Only in Perth, an initiative that combines world-class football with business, culture and sports diplomacy.

Hosted in partnership with the Consulate of Italy in Perth, the event welcomed representatives of the Government of Western Australia, executives from AC Milan, Inter, Juventus and Palermo, business leaders and members of the Italian-Australian community.

The spotlight was on football legends Christian Vieri, Christian Panucci and Serginho, whose extraordinary careers embody the passion, excellence and global appeal of Italian football. A special tribute was also paid to Franco Baresi, one of the greatest icons in the history of the game.
