Meander Valley Council announces resignation of Councillor Christine Cronshaw.

Council advises that Councillor Christine Cronshaw has resigned from her position as an elected member of Council, effective 23 June 2026.

Council extends its sincere thanks to Councillor Cronshaw for her dedication and service to the Meander Valley community, and wishes her well in the future.

🏸 Come & Try Wheelchair Badminton in Westbury!

Ready to serve, drop and smash your way into something new? ParaQuad Tasmania is hosting a fun, inclusive Come & Try session for wheelchair badminton and everyone is welcome.

Whether you are new to the sport or keen to give it a go again, this is a great chance to get active, meet others and have some fun. All equipment is supplied and it is completely free to attend.

🚧 Temporary toilet closure – Carrick Hall

Contractors are carrying out repairs at Carrick Hall, including replacing damaged front cladding above the toilet entrance.

🚻 The hall toilets will be closed for approximately 8 days while works are underway, starting today, Friday 19 June, 2026.

📍 Please use the Carrick Recreation Ground toilets, located on South Street, during this time.

Meander Valley ratepayers will shortly receive a Notice of Valuation from the Valuer‑General.

All properties in Tasmania are subject to the fresh valuation program. This program involves revaluating properties every six (6) years. The State Government's Office of the Valuer‑General is responsible for undertaking the evaluation process.

Property valuations may increase or decrease depending on factors such as property improvements, condition changes or surrounding area developments.

Updated property values are one of the factors used by Council when calculating rates. Meander Valley Council calculates general rates based on a property’s Assessed Annual Value (AAV).

Valuation changes don’t increase Council’s total rates revenue — they redistribute how rates are shared between properties.

Although valuations are used by Council when calculating rates, Council does not conduct the valuations and cannot change valuations. If you disagree with your valuation, please contact the Office of the Valuer‑General within 60 days of the date of issue on your Notice of Valuation.

If you have not received your Notice of Valuation by mid‑July, please contact the Office of the Valuer‑General directly.

Exactly how it appears will depend on your device type and operating system.

What is AusAlert?
AusAlert is a new national telephone-based warning capability that delivers emergency and public safety messages to compatible mobile phones and other mobile devices within a specified area.

AusAlert will allow emergency service organisations (ESOs) to send targeted warnings with information pertaining to natural disasters, security threats, biosecurity incidents and health emergencies.

⚠️ Important Update: Road Closure, Meander Valley Road, Exton ⚠️

The road closure on Meander Valley Road, at Exton will be reopened to through traffic, under reduced speed limits of 40 km/h from 12noon, Saturday 13 June 2026.

The temporary road closure and detours remain in place until this time.

Motorists must follow the traffic management signs and adhere to the reduced speed limits posted.

Road sealing works are scheduled from Monday 15 June 2026. During this work, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with on-site management for the safety of workers.

🚧 UPDATE – Road Closure, Meander Valley Road, Exton 🚧

This post updates information provided in our 18 May 2026 road closure notice for Meander Valley Road, Exton.

📍 What:
Roadworks on Meander Valley Road, Exton, will require a temporary full closure at the culvert construction site to allow excavation across the full width of the road and installation of new stormwater culverts.

As a result, there will be no through access via Exton during the closure period, and road users travelling through the area will need to follow signed detours. Local residents will still be able to access their properties from either side of the closure via designated detours.

📅 When:
• Initial construction activities are expected to commence on Wednesday 27 May 2026, with minor traffic disruptions expected initially.
• A full 24-hour road closure will be in place from 6:00 am Thursday 4 June to 6:00 pm Friday 12 June 2026 (inclusive).

📍 Location of the roadworks:
Roadworks will take place on Meander Valley Road between Station Lane and 3916 Meander Valley Road, Exton. A map showing the road closure area is included below 👇

🚗 Traffic impacts:
• Signed detours will be in place.
• Emergency services will access all properties at all times via designated detour routes.
• Property access for residents will be maintained via signed detours.

👥 Who is impacted:
These works may affect local residents, school bus services, emergency services, public transport operators, freight and agricultural operators, and general road users. Please allow additional travel time and plan alternative travel arrangements.

🛠️ About the works:
The project involves installing reinforced concrete stormwater culverts to improve drainage.
