Today, members from Westleigh and other Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai Rural Fire Service brigades participated in a multi-brigade Breathing Apparatus training exercise in Thornleigh, focused on building capability in internal fire fighting and search techniques, overhaul operations, and property protection activities.

These types of exercises are physically demanding and highly realistic, helping our firefighters maintain the skills needed to operate safely and effectively in challenging environments.

Training like this is critical to maintaining operational readiness and ensuring our volunteers can continue protecting the community safely and professionally.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting the exercise, including our awesome community, along with all participating crews who gave up their time to continue developing their skills 🚒 🔥

Today our thoughts are with the entire Marine Rescue NSW family following the tragic loss of two volunteers overnight.

Only days ago, our members had the privilege of spending time with the crew at Marine Rescue Broken Bay, learning more about their work, their vessels and the incredible commitment their volunteers make to keeping the community safe on the water.

While this tragedy occurred on the NSW North Coast, it is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks faced by all emergency service volunteers when they answer the call to help others.

On behalf of Westleigh , we extend our deepest condolences to the families, loved ones and fellow crew members of the two volunteers who lost their lives, and to everyone across Marine Rescue NSW impacted by this devastating incident.

We also acknowledge the crew members, radio operators and support teams involved in such difficult circumstances.

Our hearts are with you 💙

Today members from Westleigh joined Marine Rescue Broken Bay for joint familiarisation training between our two volunteer emergency services.

It was a great opportunity to learn more about each other’s equipment, capability and operating environments - from our Cat 1 tanker and land-based emergency response role, through to Marine Rescue Broken Bay’s 10m Naiad offshore and 7.5m Walkthrough Naiad rescue vessels.

Marine Rescue Broken Bay plays a critical role in keeping the community safe across Pittwater, Broken Bay and offshore, and we’re very grateful to their volunteers for hosting us and sharing their knowledge.

Strong relationships between local emergency services matter, and today was a great example of volunteers learning from each other to better support our community when it counts.

Turns out even AI thinks you can double your chances by putting two drivers in one seat. Unfortunately, we know that’s not how driving works 😅

This Easter long weekend, if your brain starts saying “I’m fine to keep going” … that’s exactly when you shouldn’t trust it - pull over and take a break.

Have a great Easter, eat way too much chocolate, and pretend it was all for the kids 😉🐣🚒
