New artist’s impressions have been unveiled for the $630 million redevelopment of our hospital.

They show the proposed five-storey clinical services building, which will seamlessly connect with the existing hospital through a welcoming new main entry and convenient drop-off area.

The building is expected to include a new and expanded Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, Medical Imaging, operating theatres and inpatient units.

Early works are underway to prepare the campus for redevelopment and include the expansion of existing car parking areas.

These works will be completed in coming months and will enable the future construction of a new 460-space multi-storey car park.

More information on the redevelopment is available at https://www.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/fairfield-hospital-redevelopment

We are partnering with researchers at the University of Wollongong to conduct a study into young children’s screen use. This research will help develop a future health promotion campaign on healthy screen use for children aged 3-5 years.

If you live in south west Sydney and are a parent or caregiver of a child aged 3-5 years, we’d love to hear from you! The survey is available in English, Arabic and Vietnamese.

It's National Volunteer Week, the perfect time to celebrate and acknowledge the many committed volunteers who contribute their time and skills across our hospitals, like Charles.

Charles has been a resident of Fairfield City for 56 years and a member of Fairfield Hospital’s Consumer & Community Participation Network for more than 15 years.

His motivation to volunteer is to help others and his favourite experiences over the years have involved getting to know and work with hospital staff and patients.

“Participating in hand hygiene studies in 2015 and 2017 brought great results. I was listened to and, as a result, the hospital became well supplied with hand dispensers in wards and elsewhere,” Charles said.

“I find it hard to imagine that any hospital could have done better.”

As a long-term resident, Charles is excited about the $630 million Fairfield Hospital Redevelopment which is in the final stage of design. “The redevelopment is needed, with changing times and populations.”

Volunteers on the Consumer & Community Participation Network are consulted on a range of hospital projects, including the current redevelopment.
