❄️❄️❄️Of course we don't have snow here on the North Coast (hopefully), but our colleagues in the emergency services can be put in danger by unprepared walkers. 🚁🚁
☀️Tasmania's wild places can turn deadly very quickly when a warm afternoon can turn into a screaming blizzard in a very short time. ☃️☃️☃️

As winter sets in, police are urging residents and visitors to respect Tasmania’s potentially dangerous alpine weather conditions, including on kunanyi/Mount Wellington.

👮 The key message from Tasmania Police Search and Rescue to bushwalkers and day trippers is Plan, Prepare and Prevent.

🏔️ Be aware that it can take just a matter of minutes for the weather to turn treacherous in Tasmania’s alpine and wilderness areas.

🌨️❄️ A day that might start out quite mild can turn to blizzard-like conditions with strong wind, sleet and snow. And in those conditions, the exposure can turn deadly.

🚓🚑 It is vital police and emergency services have clear access to mountain roads and tracks.

➡️ Our priority is getting quickly and safely to those people who need our help. Vehicles parked illegally and obstructing the road and access areas add time, and complexity, to the emergency response.

📞 If you need police assistance, call 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) if it is an emergency.

Tasmania Fire Service is supporting Tasmania Police in the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Emergency Services Blood Drive with the aim of saving 2390 lives together in honour of the late Constable Keith Smith.

🚗❄️ Snow Chain Requirement Now in Effect for Ben Lomond National Park

From today, 1 June, through to 30 September, all vehicles travelling to Ben Lomond National Park and the Ben Lomond Ski Village must carry snow chains.

Snow chains must be carried from the Lower Car Park through to the Village, regardless of the weather conditions on the day.

Why is this required?

Conditions on the mountain can change rapidly. A clear road can quickly become affected by snow, ice or freezing conditions, making travel difficult and potentially unsafe. Carrying chains helps ensure visitors can safely access and leave the mountain while reducing delays and disruptions for everyone.

⚠️ Important: Follow all road signage and the directions of Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers onsite.

Vehicles not carrying chains may be refused access beyond the Lower Car Park by Parks and Wildlife Rangers.

Need to hire chains?

📍 Ben Lomond Alpine Resort BASE

Our team can help identify the correct chain size for your vehicle and show you how to fit them before heading up the mountain.

🎟️ Parks Passes Available

Parks Passes are also available for purchase and collection at Ben Lomond Alpine Resort BASE, making it easy to organise everything you need before starting your journey up the mountain.

Have a safe trip and enjoy everything Ben Lomond National Park has to offer this winter.
