COMMUNITY & EVENTS COMMITTEE – TUESDAY 1 SEPTEMBER

Whitby Town Council’s Community & Events Committee will meet at 6.00pm on Tuesday 1 September 2026 at Pannett Art Gallery, Pannett Park.

The meeting will consider a number of matters, including:

Future cemetery provision in Whitby – considering the need for future provision and potential alternative locations for a new cemetery.

Whitby’s Coach Friendly Status – receiving an update on the ongoing initiative.

Remembrance Sunday – an update on arrangements for this year’s commemorations.

Whitby Christmas Festival – an update on preparations for this year’s festival.

As always, members of the public are welcome to attend, and the meeting includes a public participation period where residents can speak on matters on the agenda or raise issues for future consideration.

Have Your Say - Proposed Outdoor Fitness Equipment at Dundas Gardens

North Yorkshire Council is seeking views on proposals to install outdoor fitness equipment at Dundas Gardens, Whitby.

The consultation gives local residents the opportunity to comment on the proposed equipment before any decisions are made.

If you would like to take part, you can view the proposals and complete the online consultation at the link below.

The consultation closes on Sunday 9 August 2026.

We are asking residents and park users to share their views on the introduction of outdoor fitness equipment at Dundas Gardens, Whitby.

The Town Council is holding its next Full Council meeting this evening (Tuesday 28th July) at 6pm in Pannett Art Gallery, Pannett Park.

Councillors will be considering a range of important matters, including potential external funding opportunities for Pannett Art Gallery, proposals to develop a local heritage trail, the Council's Quarter 1 financial reports, and a motion concerning the Park & Ride bus route.

Members of the public are welcome to attend. There will also be an opportunity to speak during the Public Participation session.

It was a fantastic day and a great honour for the town. We would like to thank everyone who helped and supported the Town Council to ensure that the day was a great success.

Today is the day!

Whitby will proudly welcome 1 Close Support Battalion, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (1 CS Bn REME) as they exercise the Freedom of Whitby in a parade through the town.

We would love to see as many residents and visitors as possible lining the parade route to give 1 CS Bn REME the warm Whitby welcome they deserve. Please come along, wave your flags, cheer them on, and help make this a memorable occasion.

The parade will leave Church Street Car Park at 11.30am, travelling via the Swing Bridge, New Quay Road, Bagdale, and Chubb Hill, before arriving at Pannett Park at approximately 12.00 noon.

This is a rare and prestigious civic occasion, marking the highest honour that Whitby Town Council can bestow, and a chance for our community to recognise the dedication, professionalism, and service of the men and women of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Please note that a rolling road closure will be in operation along the parade route while the procession passes.

We look forward to seeing you there as Whitby comes together to celebrate this special day.

British Army battalion to exercise freedom of Whitby in historic town parade

REME Freedom of Whitby Parade

Celebrating the Freedom of Whitby granted to 1 CS Bn Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Saturday 25th of July 2026 11.30am to 12.30pm

The parade will leave Church Street Car Park at 11.30am and proceed to Pannett Park via the Swing Bridge, New Quay Road, Bagdale, and Chubb Hill before entering Pannett Park at approximately 12.00pm. The Freedom Parade Ceremony will then take place.

During the parade a rolling road closure will be in operation from 11.20 - 12.00pm. For further information please email, [email protected]

Some images from the 27th of June Whitby Armed Forces Day. We would like to thank everyone who took part. These included the Royal British Legion Whitby branch, the Teesside Para Association, Ryedale RAFA, , the Deputy Mayor Cllr Jonathan Harston, East India Living History Re-enactment Society, RAF Fylingdales, Town Bugler William Ruberry, Julia Buck for baking some very tasty cakes and WTC staff and volunteers. It was an excellent day, and we raised a significant amount of money for our nominated veterans charity the RAF Benevolent Fund
