Two Windellama units attended a bushfire tonight. The weather may be cooling down but the bush remains very dry. The property owner called triple zero (000) and we were able to put the fire out before it reached any buildings.

We may be out of the official bushfire danger period for Windellama but windy conditions could result in a planned burn becoming a bushfire. Follow some rules and proper preparation will reduce the risk of that happening.

While most of the state is no longer in the Bush Fire Danger Period, you are still required to notify the and your neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting your pile burn.

If you're going to be cooking up an outdoor feast, don’t forget cooking fires should be built within a permanently constructed fireplace, have combustible materials cleared for at least two metres around them and must be completely extinguished before you leave.

Don’t be a fire risk to your community. For more information on safe burning,

A big thanks to Cam Civil for their work this morning donating excavation and trenching for new in ground services!

This will make it quicker and easier for us to refill our trucks with water. It will also be much safer by eliminating some tight manoeuvres to get to our trucks to the previous fill point. Also thanks to another local for donating the poly pipe.

EXTREME FIRE DANGER and Total Fire Ban tomorrow Friday 6 Feb.

🟠🟠 TOTAL FIRE BAN TOMORROW (06/02/2026) EXTREME FIRE DANGER RATING 🟠🟠

Tomorrow, a Total Fire Ban has been declared for the Southern Ranges Weather District (Upper Lachlan, Goulburn Mulwaree, Yass Valley, and Queanbeyan-Palerang LGA's)

What does this mean for you?
Extreme Fire Danger days mean conditions will be dangerous, fires will spread quickly and be extremely difficult to control, and lives and homes are at risk.

🚫A Total Fire Ban means no fires are permitted in the open. If you're camping in the area, do not light a campfire.
🚒Report all fires to Triple Zero (000).
📖Check your bushfire plan and ensure that your property is fire-ready tonight, don't leave it till the fire starts.
⚠️If a fire starts, take immediate action. If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
🚜Reconsider doing hot works like welding, grinding, or slashing, as one spark is all it takes to start a fire.
🚗Reconsider traveling through bushfire risk areas.
💨Don’t wait to see smoke — leave early if your plan is to go.
