The St John First Aid Course took place today at the Manjimup St John Sub Centre, with the majority of Marine Rescue Windy Harbour volunteers participating. We appreciate the efforts of Kiara, the course trainer, and the support provided by the Manjimup St John sub centre facilities, Department of Fire Emergency Services and Marine Rescue Walpole for their assistance with radio communications and standby support.

Today, two personnel assisted with an engine failure approximately 1 nautical mile south of Cow and Calf rocks. The vessel was towed back into Fish Creek and the crew of Wind n Sea safely returned to base. Well done to all crew members who assisted today.

Our heart breaks for the Marine Rescue NSW- Marine Rescue Ballina, the families, their loved ones and crew members of the two volunteers who tragically lost their lives.

This is a heartbreaking reminder of the courage and sacrifice shown by marine rescue volunteers who answer the call to help others, often in dangerous and unpredictable conditions. These two courageous crew members will be sorely missed.

“May the sea be calm and the winds gentle, and may you rest where the horizon meets the sky.”

From Marine Rescue Windy Harbour , we send our deepest condolences and support to the entire Marine Rescue NSW and family but also to the wider Ballina community during this incredibly difficult time.

Plenty of boats on the water today off Windy Harbour. One tow-in job was required due to engine failure southeast of the Bay. Seaweed and boating traffic made the operation challenging. Our group would like to extend sincere gratitude to the boaters and community who waited, allowing the rescue vessel to launch and retrieve with first priority today. Thank you. Also, to all Marine Rescue Volunteers as a whole, serving the community. Happy Easter and be safe on the water.

Marine Safety Notice – Windy Harbour Community Update

With the current fishing ban along parts of the West Coast, we expect to see an increase in visitors and boating activity in the Windy Harbour area over the coming days and weeks.

Marine Rescue Windy Harbour welcomes everyone to enjoy our beautiful coastline, but we ask that safety be your top priority.

Please remember:
• Check weather and sea conditions before heading out
• Ensure your vessel is seaworthy and properly equipped
• Always wear a lifejacket when required
• Log on and log off your trip on VHF 81
• Let someone know your plans and expected return time
• Be mindful of local conditions, reefs, and changing weather
• Respect other water users and the local community

If you’re new to the area or unfamiliar with local conditions, take extra care—conditions can change quickly.

Marine Rescue Windy Harbour volunteers are here to help keep our community and visitors safe. Let’s all work together to ensure everyone gets home safely.
