Friending Staff on Facebook
Please note the the Department of Education and Communities has this advice for teachers 'Friending' parents on Facebook:
The line between your professional and personal life could become blurred making it difficult to manage your professional relationship with parents when that becomes necessary. You also need to bear in mind that becoming a Facebook friend with a parent could result in their children getting access to your account as well. You also need to be mindful that you need to be careful what you say on Facebook if you have parents as friends as comments made online can be misunderstood and could result in parental complaints made to your principal. In short, please do not ask to friend a member of staff on Facebook as refusal often offends.

🌿 Mabo Day 🌿

This week, two of our students shared the significance of Mabo Day with classes across the school, helping to build understanding and awareness of this important moment in Australia’s history.

Mabo Day recognises the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and the historic 1992 High Court decision that acknowledged the traditional land rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Our student leaders spoke thoughtfully and respectfully as they shared the importance of the day and encouraged students to reflect on the ongoing significance of truth, culture and connection to Country.

We are very proud of the maturity and leadership shown by our students in helping build understanding and awareness within our school community. πŸ’›

🌟 Term 2 Peer Group Day 🌟

Last week, students participated in our Term 2 Peer Group Day, with this term’s focus centred around β€œBullying No Way.” πŸ’›

Throughout the day, peer groups took part in a series of lessons and activities exploring topics such as what bullying is and what it can look like, strategies to respond to bullying, how to support others if bullying is witnessed, and what helps create a safe and supportive school environment.

Our Year 6 leaders were fantastic, demonstrating outstanding leadership, compassion and responsibility as they guided their groups through the activities while also supporting and caring for their Kindergarten buddies. Some students even helped lead lessons alongside teachers, showing great confidence and maturity. πŸ‘βœ¨

It was wonderful to see students learning, connecting and supporting one another throughout the day. We were also very grateful that the rain held off so students could enjoy flying the kites and paper planes they created together! πŸͺπŸŒˆ

🌿πŸͺƒ Junior Shadoe Rangers Program πŸͺƒπŸŒΏ

On Monday last week, several of our Aboriginal students participated in the Junior Shadoe Rangers Program at Shaws Creek Aboriginal Place, Yarramundi.
Students took part in a range of cultural learning experiences led by Uncle Lex and Auntie Corina, including learning about traditional tools, hearing stories, participating in a smoking ceremony and practising how to throw a boomerang. πŸͺƒβœ¨
Students also explored possum skins, learnt about how they were traditionally used, and heard from Blue Mountains National Parks rangers about how they care for Country alongside Aboriginal Elders.
It was a fantastic day filled with learning, connection and hands-on experiences, and our students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to deepen their understanding of culture and Country. πŸ’›πŸŒΏ
A big thank you to everyone involved in providing such a meaningful and memorable experience for our students.

πŸ“šπŸŒ National Simultaneous Storytime πŸŒπŸ“š
Last Wednesday, Winmalee Public School joined over 2 million participants across 21,000 locations to share in the delightful story πŸ“š Luna Roo The Kangaroo Baller πŸ“š by Adam Wallace, Adrian Beck and James Hart! 🦘✨
This inspiring story follows Luna Roo, a kangaroo who learns to believe in herself and encourage her teammates to success through confidence, teamwork and positivity.
Some of our talented teachers and students brought the story to life with a fun dramatic reading, making the experience even more engaging and memorable for everyone involved. πŸŽπŸ“–
We loved being part of this wonderful shared reading event and are buzzing with excitement as we look forward to the World Cup kicking off! ⚽🌟

Despite the wet and cold conditions, every student gave their absolute best on a challenging course that included a tough uphill start. Throughout the day, students demonstrated resilience, determination and fantastic sportsmanship, encouraging one another and showing true team spirit. πŸ‘βœ¨

Congratulations to all participants for representing WPS so proudly and conducting yourselves beautifully throughout the event. You are a credit to our school community! 🌟

🌟 Year One Maths – Bump It Up Groups 🌟

We’d like to share some highlights from our Year One β€˜Bump It Up’ Maths groups this term! πŸ“šβœ¨

Students have been practising their fast recall of doubles and extending this knowledge to double +1 and double -1, helping to build number sense and fluency.

They have also been exploring the positions of numbers on a 100 chart, recognising patterns, counting efficiently and developing their understanding of place value. Through flexible thinking activities, students are learning to solve problems in different ways and strengthen their mathematical reasoning skills. πŸ§ βž•

It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence and enthusiasm during their maths learning! πŸ’›

🏐 Knockout Netball 🏐

Our Winmalee PS Knockout Netball team recently travelled to Pitt Town to represent WPS in their latest game. πŸ’™

The team played a strong and determined game, demonstrating excellent teamwork, effort and sportsmanship throughout the match. Although the result did not go our way this time, the students should be very proud of the way they represented our school both on and off the court. πŸ‘βœ¨

A huge thank you to Mrs Holdsworth for her time, dedication and commitment to the team throughout the competition. We also sincerely thank our wonderful parents for their ongoing support and for helping make these opportunities possible for their children.

Thank you also to the student umpires from Winmalee High School for assisting with the competition and supporting the teams throughout the day. πŸ’›

Well done to all players on your hard work and commitment throughout the competition! 🌟

This past weekend, she competed at the Australian National BMX Championships and earned a place on the Australian National Team in the Under 11 Girls category. πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

She will now go on to represent Australia at the BMX World Titles in Brisbane this July β€” an amazing accomplishment!
