Many people think that if you read more to a dyslexic then they will acquire the necessary skills and strategies to read. This is a big misconception not founded in any research!What children get from being read to is a sense of connection, a sense of story structure, a wonderful vocabulary, analytical and comprehension skills if asked questions and asked to think about what’s been read. They develop a love of literature and rich language. Alphabetic code, decoding and encoding have to be systematically taught.
