Has been such a busy few days with rescue calls and new intakes.
So relieved and happy with Sasha , my big released girl's progress. πŸ₯° Sasha was home in the big pen with major swelling to her jaw area and chest, along with a badly swollen right shoulder. (First photo) I think she was chased by something, possibly a dog, and had smashed into a tree or post. She has been on pain meds and anti inflammatories under vet direction. 🩺 Xrays showed broken ribs but fortunately nothing else major.
She seems to know we are helping and has calmly settled back up at the house. A little more healing time and she will be able to return to the Senior enclosure until she's fully recovered and ready for rerelease. πŸ™πŸ¦˜

Big Vet visit day yesterday. 🩺 Sadly, not every visit always has a happy ending. Yesterday's did! πŸ₯°
Sasha, one of my big released girls was back in the pen the other morning with swelling in different areas and in obvious pain. πŸ˜” A treatment plan was started in consultation with my vet, and after small, but definite improvements, she was off for xrays yesterday to see what we were dealing with. She does have a few broken ribs but with her pain being managed and still being bright within herself....her outcome is looking positive. ❀️
Xrays, wound care, some stitches and bandage changes...so much easier when they're asleep. 😁
Everyone came home with an updated treatment plan. I'm so extremely grateful for the Vet support I have. πŸ™

This Eastern Grey Mum was the first of two car hits I was called to with unviable joeys onboard. πŸ₯²
Neither had obvious injuries such as broken bones. Unfortunately this means absolutely nothing. Very few get hit by a vehicle without some form of internal injury as well. We don't have the Wildlife Hospitals here that deal with these very large macropods either. It's sad, but I can fully understand why. The stress and the chance of them eventually passing of myopathy is high. As a carer/ rescuer we are limited to the veterinary support we have access to.
Veterinary assistance sadly wouldn't have helped either of these car hits yesterday anyway.
The Grey girl passed in my car as I was calling around to see whether xrays would be an option. A big thank you to Fernvale Vets for euthanasing her unviable joey for me. πŸ™ The second Rednecked Wallaby Mum I brought home to examine more thoroughly and contact my vet. She unfortunately deteriorated and was given her wings. πŸ˜‡ Her unviable joey passed shortly after, still warm in Mum's pouch. I was so grateful I didn't need to intervene. I know we'd all like to believe these animals could be treated and saved. The best chance they have is to not be hit! We know they're around. We know they just jump out of nowhere. Slow down! Constantly scan the the road and footpath ahead. With all of the new development happening, it's only going to get worse.

Echidnas are on the move at the moment. Ideally, we are directed not to move them unless injured. They will usually move on again at night. Please secure your dogs and leave them be if possible. Mid May until September is peak breeding season. Once out of pouch, the Mum leaves her puggles in a burrow only returning to feed them every few days. This gentleman was insistent that these two visitors be moved from his living area under a house. πŸ¦” They were both released in suitable bushland close by. We're lucky to live in areas where these amazing creatures live too. ❀️
Please try not to disturb uninjured wildlife where possible.

Hit Eastern Grey Doe just past the roadworks at Fernvale, heading to Lowood. πŸ’” She had passed before I arrived. πŸ™ She had a lactating teat but no joey around. The teat hadn't been cut and she hadn't been marked, I was hoping someone had already taken the joey...but more than likely not. πŸ˜”

This little Eastern Grey joey came in yesterday. He had to have a small area around his top lip stitched. πŸͺ‘ He's bright and drinking well but still very scared. 😌 Lots of cuddles through the night. πŸ€—πŸ˜΄

Her little one was having an explore. 🐾 Mum made sure she didn't go too far though.
Another crazy day yesterday for rescue calls. Started the morning with an early call for a hit koala. 🐨 Unfortunately I couldn't find him/her. Thank you to Pryde Wild Life who also attended. They apparently spotted one high up in a tree after I'd left, and were organising a trap. πŸ™ Hoping the trap was successful and it was the same koala.
Ended the night searching for a hit deer Split Yard Creek way. Not native wildlife, but still didn't deserve to suffer. πŸ’” Unfortunately the Police had been unable to attend, but a local, registered shooter offered to help. With permission from the Police to shoot, we headed off in the dark to search. We finally found the Deer...and he had already passed. No more suffering atleast. The driver had offered to come back to assist us to find him. We fortunately found him a few minutes later.
It can be very difficult to find animals without someone being able to stay onsite. I do understand that people have commitments and often can't.
Photos, a link to their location on maps and any other location tips are extremely helpful. Both of these callers did that. πŸ™Œ
We passed 3 hit macropods on our drive along Somerset Wivenhoe Road. A Swampy, Rednecked Wallaby and Eastern Grey kangaroo. πŸ’” None were crossed or appear to have been moved from the roadside. This makes the chances of a second hit of raptors or at foot joeys so much higher. I wasn't called about any of them. Hoping someone was. Please always check for joeys and pull the body further away from the road if safe and possible to. Thanks.
