Owners of property in the Wallcliffe Bush Fire Brigade area are being invited to participate in Red Tube on a Stick program.

The program sees owners work with the local brigade to produce a standardised property map showing where their home fire defence systems such as fire pumps, water access points and sprinklers systems can be accessed and operated.

The map will then be packaged into a readily-identifiable red tube, which will be mounted on a galvanised star picket on the property for firefighters to easily find and use in the event of a fire emergency.

Shire Bush Fire Ready Facilitator Gordon Temby said the Red Tube on Stick program primarily sought to assist firefighters get important information as quickly and easily as possible.

“A lot of homes are now equipped with fire pumps, sprinklers systems and hose reel but often the systems need the homeowner in attendance to be activated,” he said.

“Our hope is these maps are a means of communicating the home’s fire defence setups to firefighters so they are able to activate or tap into the systems if the homeowner has evacuated or is not in the nearby vicinity.”

The program will cost property owners $50 to participate, to cover materials and installation cost.

Anyone living in the Wallcliffe Bush Fire Brigade area who is interested in the program can apply via Gordon Temby on 9757 2016.

If the pilot program proved successful in the Wallcliffe Bush Fire Brigade area the Shire will consider the feasibility of expanding the program to include the whole local government area.
