Hey Bakers Delight! Thanks so much for the yummy bread and rolls to have with our soup 😋
Training night this week brought us together to share warming soup with the comfort of surrounding ourselves with peers.
Not just our peers within the Unit, but we had our annual visit from SES Peer Support who spoke to us about Potentially Traumatic Events and how these may impact the mental health of members and their personal network, like family and friends.
Thankfully, VICSES have many options available for support - in addition to the amazing mutual support we see amongst members at SES Wodonga Unit 🧡

Last night was a brilliant demonstration of community taking care of community.
Rob had a very close call as this tree let go from the grounds he was travelling along Pearce Street. With quick action, he moved his vehicle to a safe location and popped his spotties on to alert other motorists to the hazard and called SES on 132 500 to report the hazard.
The volunteer SES crew descended on the scene and met other members of the public parked with hazard lights on to warn drivers on the other side, and began clearing the tree while council arranged support to completely clear and reopen the road.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to keeping the scene safe and assisting with clearing branches 🧡

🪾Now THIS is a branch! 😮
It kept our crew busy for a little while yesterday afternoon.
Sudden limb failure can occur at any time, the signs of risk aren't always obvious and healthy looking limbs can come down too.
Thankfully, this one dropped without causing issue (apart from blocking the road) 😌

❄️ Ready for anything, anywhere.

One of our members spent their weekend on a 20km return trek between Diamondina Springs and Mount Feathertop.
He was joined by members from Nunawading, Whitehorse, and Bairnsdale

VICSES Alpine Search and Survival (ASAS) members train to survive multiple days in the harshest winter conditions. This intense training ensures they can reach anyone in need, even in the most remote and complex emergencies.

Severe thunderstorms in the northwest are moving east into the northeast tonight and early tomorrow, bringing the risk of damaging winds and heavy rain that could cause flash flooding.

A Flood Watch is in place for parts of Northeast and Central Victoria, with minor to moderate flooding expected and the chance of isolated major flooding.

Heavy rainfall could also increase the risk of landslides and debris flows in areas affected by fires earlier this year, so it is important to stay alert. If you need emergency assistance, contact VICSES on 132 500.

With school holidays underway, please take extra care around rivers, creeks and lakes, as water levels can rise quickly without warning. If you are travelling or camping, avoid setting up near trees, branches or low lying areas close to waterways.

If conditions become dangerous, it is safest to stay indoors. If you are driving and conditions worsen, pull over safely away from drains, trees and floodwater.

Stay informed by using the VicEmergency app and setting a watch zone for your local area or anywhere you plan to travel.
