ITSOWEL is proud of its over 45 years of service to the Italo-Australian community in the Illawarra. We are a non-profit community organisation directed by a voluntary Board of Management which is elected annually. The majority of ITSOWEL's services are funded by a combination of State and Federal Government grants, fees from service recipients and fundraising activities. ITSOWEL is committed to t

On Monday, Pete from Wollongong Fire Station, presented a very important talk on fire safety to our social group participants.
Pete delivered excellent information on fire alarms in the home, battery life of fire alarms, fire safety when charging lithium batteries, safety around heaters and fire safety in the kitchen.
The participants were very involved in the presentation and benefited from the information received.

At ITSOWEL celebrating birthdays and special occasions such as Father’s Day is always important because it recognises the individual. We honour our older people for the sacrifices which they made and their contribution to their community.

Frank stays up past midnight watching two football games and is back out in the garden the next morning. Next door, the Smith family watched the pizza-making and salami-curing happen over the fence for years, traded plants and tips, and put up with Frank's cat digging up their veggies.

"No ill feelings between the Mastroianni's and the Smiths. Never been any problems." Just two families who've been good neighbours for a very long time.

Everyone is welcome at ITSOWEL regardless of who you are and where you come from. Our roots are Italian, a culture which embraces older people as family and values what they have contributed to society. Erika is from Ukraine, she shares her traditions in our social group and she is in an environment where she is welcome and with friends from other parts of the world. 🚌❤️ Could You Spare a Few Hours to Make Someone’s Day?

We’re looking for caring volunteers to assist our elderly clients on the ITSOWEL community bus.

The role is simple but incredibly important: helping people safely on and off the bus, offering a steady arm when needed, sharing a friendly chat, and helping make every outing enjoyable and stress-free.

For many of our clients, these bus trips are more than just transport – they’re a chance to connect with others, get out into the community, and enjoy a brighter day.

You don’t need any special qualifications, just patience, kindness, and a willingness to help.

If you’d like to make a real difference in someone’s life and be part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you.
