🚨 Still wondering why our station was emitting smoke on Wednesday night? 🚨

Your local firefighters were engaged in a structural firefighting and search and rescue simulated scenario.

A smoke machine was deployed to create realistic conditions, allowing our firefighters to hone critical skills such as hose deployment, search techniques, and casualty extraction. These proficiencies are vital for safeguarding lives and property within our community.

Notably, these very skills were applied just days later during a late-night shed fire in North Wonthaggi. Your local firefighters are dedicated to rigorous training to ensure they are consistently prepared and capable of responding effectively to our communities needs. 🔥 🚒

TRAINING TONIGHT 🚒
Please do not be alarmed if you notice smoke coming from our station tonight.
The smoke is part of a planned training exercise and is being used to simulate a structure fire in a controlled environment.
Tonight, our firefighters will be practicing the fundamentals of search and rescue, helping to maintain and improve the skills needed to keep our community safe.

Two of our incredible volunteers are taking on the 2026 Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb!
They’ll join nearly 1,000 firefighters to climb 28 floors of the Crown Metropol, all while carrying 25kg of firefighting gear.

Tonight we responded to Coronet Bay following reports of a suspected carbon monoxide (CO) leak at a residential premises.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus conducted atmospheric monitoring using gas detection equipment to assess CO levels within the structure.

As a precaution, all occupants were evacuated to a safe outdoor location and assessed by Ambulance Victoria at the scene.

Once safe the occupants were allowed to return indoors.

At the start and end of Daylight savings it is best to check/change your smoke alarm batteries. All smoke alarms need to be checked, even the alarms with ten year batteries and hard wired. Please check your smoke alarm before June 1st.
