When serious incidents happen on our roads, SES volunteers are there alongside other emergency services to help save lives. If you’re calm under pressure, keen to learn new skills, and want to make a real difference, the Woodburn SES Unit is looking for you.
👉 What Road Crash Rescue Involves
As a Road Crash Rescue volunteer, you can train in:
- Vehicle access and extrication techniques
- Working safely with specialised rescue tools and equipment
- Supporting other emergency services at crash scenes

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS of the flooding on the Richmond River:

You should monitor conditions by checking warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and following the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises since 9:00 am Friday widespread rainfall totals up to 100 mm have been recorded over the Northern Rivers catchments. Heavy rainfall has eased and light to moderate rainfall is forecast over the Northern Rivers catchments during the next few days.

While flooding is no longer expected, NSW SES will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update warnings accordingly.

If you are visiting our area this weekend, please plan your trip carefully.

⚡Regularly check the weather and Live Traffic NSW for road closures.
⛺ Avoid camping near creeks and waterways or under trees
🚗 Be prepared as you might need to adjust your plans. You don’t want to be stuck on the side of the road with a car full of kids!
🍎🍇Pack some water and snacks in case of delays and remember, if it’s flooded, forget it.

What are we expecting?

A cold front and its associated trough is crossing much of the state during Thursday, before lingering and deepening about the northeast from Friday and into the weekend.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast from Thursday evening through into the weekend across the Northern Rivers catchments. Locally intense falls are also possible with thunderstorms from Thursday evening through to Friday morning.

This rainfall may cause minor flooding in the Northern Rivers catchments from late Friday. The exact location and timing of the heaviest falls remain uncertain. Localised river level rises and flash flooding are possible within the areas of heaviest rainfall.

NSW SES are monitoring the situation closely and will update warnings accordingly.

A cold front and its associated trough is crossing much of the state during Thursday, before lingering and deepening about the northeast from Friday and into the weekend. Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast from Thursday evening through into the weekend across the Northern Rivers catchments.

Locally intense falls are also possible with thunderstorms from Thursday evening through to Friday morning. This rainfall may cause minor flooding in the Northern Rivers catchments from late Friday.
The Northern Rivers catchments are relatively dry. The exact location and timing of the heaviest falls remain uncertain. Localised river level rises and flash flooding are possible within the areas of heaviest rainfall.

Flood classes (minor, moderate and major) are only defined for catchments where the Bureau provides a flood warning service.
Catchments likely to be affected include:
💧Tweed and Rous Rivers: Minor flooding
💧Brunswick River and Marshalls Creek: Minor flooding
💧Wilsons River: Minor flooding
💧Richmond River: Minor flooding

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the possibility of thunderstorms across Northern Rivers, Coffs and Clarence government areas starting tomorrow and continuing over the weekend.

Thunderstorm activity is forecast to bring localised heavy rainfall to some areas leading to flash flooding and residents are asked to be prepared. Please remember exact location of storms is hard to predict this far out.

NSW SES is getting ready to respond to any storm impacts and asks the community to:
⚡ Tie down loose items outside their homes
🏠 Clear their gutters and trim any overhanging branches
🚗 Move their car undercover or away from trees and powerlines
💧 If you come across a flooded road, turn around and find an alternative route. Steer clear of floodwater.
