Smoke hazard alert!
QPWS with assistance from Woodgate and Goodwood brigades as well as Bundaberg Regional Council will be conducting a hazard reduction burn beginning tomorrow morning on the corner of Heidke and Woodgate Roads. Smoke is expected to cross Woodgate road and may affect residents of Kinkuna Waters Estate for some time. One lane of Woodgate Road will be closed from 9am so expect delays. If you are impacted by smoke, please keep all doors and windows closed and any necessary medications close at hand. In Summary: A new nationwide mobile phone alert system for emergencies is being tested on Monday 27 July 2026 at 2:00pm.

Details:
A new system for alerting us all of emergencies such as bushfires or flooding is being introduced.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices.

As part of the rollout, a series of tests have been conducted and a full test of the system will be held this month.

On Monday 27 July 2026, a test alert will be sent to all mobile devices in Australia. You will all receive a test message at 2:00pm that day.

Everyone with a compatible phone or other device in Australia can expect to receive the alert.

Devices will vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds.

An AusAlert message will appear on device screens. It will clearly say it is a test.

Good morning Woodgate! Please be aware that DMNR with the assistance of the brigade will be conducting a hazard reduction burn along frizzells road today. If you are affected by smoke please keep your doors and windows closed and any necessary medications to hand.

Good morning Woodgate, please be aware there is a permitted hazard reduction burn scheduled for 11:30am in Paperbark Court today. If affected by smoke please make sure you close all doors and windows and have any necessary medications at hand. If there is an emergency don’t hesitate to call 000.

Today we sent two crews to assist QLD Parks and Wildlife with a hazard reduction burn near Camp Gregory from 9am to 4pm. Thanks to those crews for your time and effort helping to keep Camp Gregory safe. Remember if you see smoke or a bushfire call 000 - even if it turns out to be us on a planned burn, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Planned burn in Burrum Coast National Park

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) conducts planned burns on parks and
forests to support a healthy environment and reduce the risk and intensity of bushfires.
QPWS will conduct a planned burn in Burrum Coast National Park between 14/04/2026 and
16/04/2026, weather permitting.
As a result of the planned burn, smoke may be seen in nearby areas including Woodgate, and Buxton, Heidkis and Darville Roads may be affected.
If visiting Burrum Coast National Park, observe all signs, barriers, and directions from QPWS Rangers and never enter closed areas.
Avoid driving through smoke where possible and be aware of firefighters working in the area.
Planned burns are vital in promoting ecological health, biodiversity, and the conservation of species and habitats.
They also aim to mitigate the risk and intensity of bushfires and their potential impacts on communities, infrastructure, parks, and forests.
Planned burns are highly weather-dependent, generally requiring milder conditions and minimal wind.
These same weather conditions can also allow smoke to accumulate and linger until weather conditions change and winds assist in dispersing the smoke.

If smoke affects you:
o stay indoors and close windows and doors; and
o keep respiratory medication close by.
