Training today, Person Overboard, CPR at sea, search patterns, retrieval of person from the sea (Ruth our rescue mannequin), tow astern, side by side tow, navigation, way points and bar crossing.

This in just one morning session of 3 hours!

This keeps us trained up and ready to ‘Save Lives at Sea’.

Our Wooli rescue vessel is safely back on her berth at the wharf in the Wooli Wooli River tonight after the 20 hour service today on our motors.

In order to service the motors, Wooli 30 must go up on the hard. Some photos and videos of how the boat is lifted out of the water and then back in after the service is finished.

Wooli 30 is heading to Yamba today for the first service (20 hour) on our engines. Conditions today are favourable for the trip north with a light southerly wind and minimal swell.

Note how our skipper just gently ‘walks’ Wooli 30 out just past the end of the rock walls and then waits for the opportunity to proceed out over the bar.

Good work skipper!

Wooli 30 should be able to return today, however if there is any delay, the crew will need to be picked up in Yamba and driven back to Wooli and then transported back to Yamba on a day when the vessel is ready.

This was a video taken by a Wooli local as we towed a vessel back over the Wooli river bar with steering failure.

The entrance was subject to pressure waves at the time which are created during an ebb tide running against an opposing swell on a shoaling bottom . This always makes towing a vessel tricky, trying to judge tow length and maintaining a safe speed for the Rescue vessel and the distressed vessel.

The new vessel on its first activation performed flawlessly and the crew appreciated its larger displacement and power that made the challenging tow safer for everyone.

We are sure that the new vessel will afford a safer environment for all our crew for many years to come.

Some footage of our tow this morning. Just coming around the bend into the river.

When we are safely in the river, we bring the towed vessel alongside and secure it with lines until we reach the boat ramp.

First incident response for our new vessel this morning!

Marine Rescue members arrived home from cooking breakfast for the Aussie Triples Motorbike Club today (Sunday) and within 5 minutes we received a call out to a vessel with steering cable problems just out from the Wooli bar.

Crew and vessel did a great job and towed the distressed vessel in to the boat ramp in the Wooli Wooli river.

The distressed vessel was 6 metres in length and the bar was tricky on the run out tide. Thanks to the two skippers on board our rescue vessel who expertly brought our vessel and the distressed vessel under tow into the river and thanks to the two crew who supported the incident.

Job well done and the two recreational boaters on the distressed vessel were very relieved to be back on shore.

Breakfast all round I’d say!

The Aussie Triples Classic Motorbike Club are staying in Wooli this weekend.

This morning, Marine Rescue Wooli members cooked breakfast for members of the Motorbike Club at the Wooli River Lodges.

In return, the Motorbike Club are donating the proceeds from their weekend activities to Marine Rescue Wooli!

What a great bunch of people! So generous and great company!

Marine Rescue Wooli AGM in July 2026 was a very pleasant meeting with awards being presented to members by Northern Area MR Board director Keith Smith for years of service and two Lifetime Memberships were also presented.

Lifetime memberships are rare and are awarded in exceptional circumstances, not simply for longevity of service.

Congratulations to Marty and Dieter who both received Unit Life Membership Awards for extraordinary service and dedication. Both also received pins for 20 years of service (Marty) and 15 years of service (Dieter).

Peter received his 25 year pin, a long and distinguished service.

Also receiving 20 year pins were Jackie and Kerry.
Emilio was awarded his 15 year pin. All three have performed operational and support roles with dedication, always ready to help out.

Matthew was awarded the Unit Commander’s Citation for his extraordinary effort over the last two years as Unit Commander and his huge contribution to the negotiations on the design, build and delivery of our new vessel.

Congratulations to all concerned for your dedication and commitment to Marine Rescue Wooli.

This is what makes a Unit functional and ready to respond as an emergency service.
