Today we celebrate the people behind the animals!

Happy International Zookeeper Day to our incredible Wildlife HQ team!

Being a zookeeper is so much more than what you see when you visit the zoo. It’s early mornings, late finishes, endless cleaning, preparing diets, training, enrichment, health checks and building relationships with the animals in their care.

Most importantly, it’s a genuine passion for wildlife and a commitment to giving every animal the very best care, every single day.

We’re incredibly proud of the dedicated team we have at Wildlife HQ and everything they do for our animals.

Today is their day — Happy International Zookeeper Day! 🐍🐊🐒🐨🐻🐾

National Bilby Day

Today we’re celebrating Rose, Ginny & Hermione and shining a spotlight on the conservation of one of Australia’s most iconic native animals — the Greater Bilby.

Once widespread across much of Australia, bilbies have disappeared from large parts of their former range, with introduced predators, habitat loss and competition from introduced species among their biggest threats.

National Bilby Day also highlights the important work of the Save the Bilby Fund, helping protect bilbies and restore secure populations in the wild.

Here’s to a future where bilbies continue to thrive in the Australian landscape.

September is Save the Koala Month!

Koalas are one of Australia’s most iconic animals, but they need our help. In 2022, koalas were officially listed as Endangered in Queensland, New South Wales and the ACT, with habitat loss, disease, vehicle strikes, dog attacks and climate-related threats continuing to impact wild populations.

We can all play a part in protecting their future:
🌿 Protect and restore koala habitat
🚗 Slow down and stay alert in koala areas
🐕 Keep dogs contained, especially at night
🌳 Plant koala-friendly native trees
💚 Support koala conservation and rescue organisations

This September, help us spread the word and save our koalas for generations to come. 🐨🌿

🇦🇺 National Threatened Species Day

Today marks the anniversary of the death of the last known Tasmanian tiger in 1936 — a powerful reminder of what can be lost forever.

Australia is home to some of the world’s most unique wildlife, but many of our native species continue to face threats in the wild.

Today we’re highlighting just some of the threatened Australian species that call Wildlife HQ home. 💚

Extinction is forever. Conservation matters.

🐒🌿 Happy International Primate Day!

We might be a little biased… but primates are definitely some of our favourites here at Wildlife HQ!

We’re proud to be home to one of the largest and most diverse collections of primates in Queensland — from tiny Pygmy Marmosets and Cotton-top Tamarins to Spider Monkeys, Baboons, Gibbons and more!

With so many different personalities (and plenty of cheekiness!), there’s never a dull day with this crew.

Today we’re celebrating them all and the incredible primate species around the world.

🐾 International Painted Dog Day! 🐾

Today we’re celebrating one of Africa’s most incredible and endangered predators — the African Painted Dog!

Here at Wildlife HQ, we’re home to a bachelor pack of seven brothers — Aren, Chike, Duma, Lazaro, Niru, Otto and Mutazz.

Painted Dogs are incredibly social animals, living in close-knit packs with strong bonds between pack members. And just like their name suggests, each dog has their own unique pattern of black, brown, white and gold markings — no two are exactly alike!

Sadly, African Painted Dogs are one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores, with wild populations threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, conflict with people and disease.

International Painted Dog Day is a chance to celebrate this incredible species and raise awareness of the importance of protecting them in the wild. 🌍🐾
