National Wattle Day is celebrated in Australia on 1 September, marking the start of spring and honoring the golden wattle, the national floral emblem.

National Wattle Day celebrates Australia and being Australian, with the golden wattle (Acacia pycnantha) serving as a unifying symbol of resilience, diversity, and national identity. The wattle’s bright green and gold colors are widely recognized and even appear on Australian coins, medals, and sporting uniforms, symbolizing unity and the enduring spirit of Australians in the face of challenges like droughts and bushfires

The first Wattle Day celebrations occurred in 1910 across New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. It was initially linked to patriotism, community fundraising, and support for soldiers during wartime. On 1 September 1992, the day was officially proclaimed as National Wattle Day by the Governor-General of Australia

The golden wattle itself was declared Australia’s national floral emblem on 1 September 1988

Today we delivered a selection of shelf stable pantry goods to Mary Mac's Place to help them with the much needed meals they prepare on a daily basis along with food they give to those in need.

Yesterday our President Margy and members attended Mary Mac's Place to hand over a selection of knitted garments and rugs to their manage Sally.

Not only did we gift them these knitted items handmade by members, we also handed over a cheque for $500.00 thanking them for all they do in our community.

Last week seven members and one gorgeous guide dog from our branch visited the long established CWA Tearooms at Eastwood for our monthly cultural outing.

The Tea and Rest rooms celebrated 30 years this year and is worth a visit. Our table looked beautiful and inviting and the scones were gorgeous with our hot cuppa.

The President of the branch gave us an informative history talk. After our morning tea and chat we walked the main street of Eastwood and enjoyed looking at all the different Asian shops and restaurants. It was a feast for the senses.

We enjoyed a light lunch in a Chinese tea garden cafe and left for home with the sun still shining.

We meet every wednesday from 9am to 1pm for craft and chat. The forth wednesday of the month is dedicated to our monthly business meeting.

Last week members had lunch at where they enjoyed a wonderful meal in the American-Style diner.

After lunch they visited Gosford Regional Gallery and Edogawa Commemorative Garden to see the Aunty Ellen Trevorrow display of woven art.

A wonderful day was had by all.

Yesterday our branch member Katrina presented Clinical Midwife Educator Catherine Palmer and midwife Maree McClymont with two baby baskets, one for a girl and one for a boy.

We do this every year for the first boy and girl born on our birthday which is the 8th of June. This year we were so busy celebrating that we forgot about our much loved baby baskets so they were a little late - oops, too much champagne perhaps, it was our 94th birthday after all. 🤣

Competition was fierce yesterday with seven branch entries for Plain Butter Cake.

Past Cookery Officer and acclaimed Land Cookery Judge Amy Scott stepped in to do the honour of judging the seven entries. It took a while as the cakes were of such a high standard and we congratulate our three winners.
