CWA Woy Woy Branch

CWA Woy Woy Branch Woy Woy CWA was founded in 1932. We meet every Wednesday of the month from 9am for craft and chat You don't even have to do craft.

We meet every Wednesday at 9am for craft and chat & every 4th Wednesday of the month at 9:30am for our monthly meeting. We are a well established group with a very historical & well respected background in the Woy Woy area. We have some members that are avid bakers & some that just come along for the social aspect & to help with fundraising and awareness. We help CWA NSW with causes that the CWA i

s involved in. This can include many varied endeavours, charities and government lobbying. No longer is the CWA about Tea and Scones (though we enjoy that too), so come along and meet us and help us take Woy Woy CWA into the 21st Century. For more wonderful information about the CWA have a look at the CWA NSW website at www.cwaofnsw.org.au

Last week three members travelled to Forster for the annual CWA State Conference. The conference is about passing motions that will be presented to parliament but there is also some fun to be had.

Our member Lorraine Jones came 2nd in the state for her Bush Ballad.
Thanks to the hard work of Liz Shaw we came 2nd in the state for our Cultural book and we came 1st for the most number of Land Cookery entries for a branch with 51 plus members.

Well done to everyone in all the Groups across the state who entered the many varied competitions and thank you Foster for hosting this years conference.

The big pink bus arrived again this week to park in the grounds of our hall for the next 10 weeks or so.

We are so proud to host the bus again for the 7th year. It is a valued service for all women on the Peninsular.

It only takes 20 minutes and could save your life so please call BreastScreen NSW on 132050 to book your mammogram and then come and admire our decorated bras on our hall.

Yesterday 30 very enthusiastic CWA members and friends boarded the bus at 8.30am along with "Disco Dave" their very informative and attentive driver then headed to Birkenhead Point for a day of shopping at the many and varied direct factory outlets. Morning tea stop along the way with games and a lucky seat draw saw the day unfold.

The return trip saw them home safely back to the hall at 4.30pm, tired and somewhat quieter and with lighter purses.

The company were great to deal with and made the experience a very pleasurable one. We highly recommend them.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Our new Ag and Environment officer Vicki has definitely embraced her role in her first year as a Woy Woy member taking out second place at the Luddenham show recently.

Her knitted chickens caused a clucking flurry when she entered the show and came a close second to the first place winner. How eggciting!

Maybe we can persuade Vicki to knit some more for our next market day and hope she doesn't chicken out 🤣

Yesterday five of our members attended the CWA of NSW Hornsby & District Branch to partake in their yearly, ever popular 3 in 1 day.

Members were treated to this year's County of Study Fiji, with lovely food and cultural information.

They also learnt about this years beautiful bird of study, the black cockatoo and our native She Oak (casuarina) that has quite a few varieties as does the black cockatoo.

Not only is CWA about giving to community and forming friendships, it is also about learning from other countries and their cultures. The similarities and the differences between us.

Hornsby Branch is one of thirteen branches that make up the Northumberland group which starts at Hornsby and ends at Morisset. So if you have ever thought about joining your local CWA don't hesitate to contact our state office at www.cwaofnsw.org.au for more information.

This week we retire our weekly segment affectionately known as .

Our first ever recipe was the 27th March 2020 when I was the President. It was a way of trying to stay connected to branch members and the wider community we served at the beginning of COVID lockdowns.

Every recipe I have made and tested before it was put on our page. In the early days my daughter was the Publicity Officer and she did the posting. When she had a baby, I took over Publicity after resigning as President so I could have much-needed quality time with my new grandson.

The last two years as Publicity Officer, I have maintained the dedication and almost every week tested and published another recipe. But, after six years and just over 300 recipes the time has come to retire it.

You will also see a new Publicity officer as of October this year because I now have two grandsons who are growing up way too fast and have become my priority. I am sure that the new Publicity Officer will do our branch proud and whilst there may not be any more ROW I am sure she will make the role her own.

So tomorrow, I will publish our first ever recipe — a fitting way to end where we began. Thank you to all of our almost 9500 followers on Facebook and Instagram for your loyal support of our page and our branch.

All recipes can be accessed by clicking on Photos then scrolling through them, best done over a cuppa. 🥰
