Lead by our longtime mascot, Percy, the Pelicans competed in the Gosford Seagulls Swimming Club carnival on Saturday.
Starting out in Sunshine it wasn’t long before the light showers that half way through the carnival turned to heavy rain, strong winds, Thunder and lightning that put an end to the carnival.

However, we welcomed new member Grace to her first Masters Carnival, with 11 other Pelicans. Some got to swim others not but I think we got to know each other a little better.

Congratulations to Gosford on a well organised carnival on their return to hosting a meet after several years.

Huge congratulations to our incredible Club Captain Marion, who has been awarded Central Coast Community Champion!

Below is a message from Mayor Lawrie McKinna outlining Marion's amazing work with the Ettalong Pelicans!

Marion Dreyer is the kind of Community Champion every community needs. Willing to dive in and do what needs to be done, she’s caring and compassionate and gives her time and energy to support others in her community.

Marion has volunteered as Club Captain of the Ettalong Pelicans for more than 7 years. She was Vice Captain before that and has been involved in many aspects of supporting the Club including promotion and publicity.

She encourages people of all ages to swim for fitness, enjoy swimming as a social activity and to compete in Masters Swimming Competitions. She only learned to swim in her late 40s but has gone on to achieve personal bests including winning bronze in the Open Waters Swim at Rockhampton Masters Championships in 2014, in the 65-69 age group.

In 2022, after two years of cancellations due to Covid-19, Marion led a team of 23 swimmers, aged 25 to 76 years to finish seventh out of 84 teams in the Masters Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre, achieving their most successful result for many years.

She's recently been awarded life membership of the Club for her dedication and long-term commitment.

Marion ensures everyone is included and she’s committed to bringing out the best in people. She organises social opportunities and activities for people who may benefit from connecting with others and is known for her quiet energy and enthusiasm.

Our Central Coast Community Champion initiative honours people who, through exceptional effort and commitment, make a difference to the lives of others.

Marion’s motto is β€˜never say never and give it a go’. I’m sure you’ll agree she’s a very worthy Community Champion and she has our gratitude and appreciation.

Join us for our MSNSW 50th Birthday dinner - Saturday 20th September.

This year we’re not just celebrating a birthday, we’re honouring 50 years of passion, perseverance, and poolside friendships. Whether it began with early morning practices, weekend meets, or laps shared in quiet determination, this 50 year journey through swimming is about more than strokes and splits. It’s about the community built along the way. From chlorine-scented camaraderie to lifelong bonds forged in the water, this milestone belongs to all of us who have shared a lane.

Let’s gather to celebrate the decades of dedication to Masters Swimming, a sport that keeps us young, strong and connected. πŸ’™
