Wunghnu Fire Brigade members are deeply saddened by the passing of our Captain, Nick Jutson, on the 28th of February 2026.
The brigade and its members extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, his daughters and to his extended family.
Nick joined the CFA as a member of the Dooren Fire Brigade in 1968 before transferring to the newly formed Mernda Fire Brigade in 1970. In 1990 he moved to Wunghnu, joining our brigade, where he served as a dedicated member in various roles for the next 36 years.
He was elected as Captain of the Brigade in 2019 and was awarded with the National Medal and Honorary Life Membership of the CFA in 2025 for his service to the CFA and the broader community.
Nick’s legacy is engraved in the culture and station of our brigade.
He was an active firefighter, responding to callouts to fires and other emergencies in all conditions and at all hours of the day or night.
He was a strong advocate and support for our brigade’s members and always made himself available to provide advice and guidance for our newer members.
He assisted in the first 1990’s upgrade to our station, helping to erect the current meeting room and toilet extension to the old tin shed and was instrumental in planning and securing the funding for our next upcoming upgrade through a VESEP grant last year.
We are honoured to have served with you Nick, you will be missed.
