🚨🧡💙 WYNDHAM WEST SES – RESPONDING WHEN IT MATTERS!

Just before lunch on Tuesday 20 October, Wyndham West SES volunteers responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a home in Mambourin. 🚗🏠

On arrival, our volunteers took over the scene from Wyndham CFA and immediately assessed the safety of the occupants, driver and surrounding community.

👷‍♂️ Following a thorough risk assessment, our crews got to work:

🔸 Assessing the structural damage and potential hazards.

🔸 Removing a significant amount of damaged building materials and debris.

🔸 Clearing the affected area to help make the property safe.

🔸 Working with a Wyndham City Council building surveyor to safely remove the vehicle from the structure while preventing further damage.

⏱️ Our dedicated volunteers spent over two hours on scene, working to make the area safe and minimise further risks.

👏 A huge thank you to Wyndham CFA and Wyndham City Council for their assistance and collaboration.

🧡💙 Different agencies, one goal – keeping our community safe!

🧡💙 TRAINING IN ACTION – WYNDHAM WEST SES! 🌊

Monday night saw our Wyndham West SES volunteers at Werribee South Beach, putting their flood and storm response skills into action! 💪

Members constructed two sandbag ponds, pumped water from the bay, transferred it between ponds and safely diverted it back through a controlled channel.

🚨 This hands-on exercise reinforced vital skills while giving our volunteers the opportunity to engage with locals enjoying our beautiful beach!

🌧️ Rain, hail or shine – we train so we’re ready when our community needs us most!

👏 A big shout-out to our dedicated volunteers who continue to train and prepare to support our community and fellow Victorians.

💬 DID YOU KNOW? Our SES volunteers regularly take part in practical training exercises like this to prepare for emergencies.

Have you ever wondered what goes into preparing our SES volunteers to respond when disaster strikes?

🧡⛈️ STORM SMART, FUTURE READY! 🚨👮‍♂️

This week, our VICSES Wyndham West volunteers had a fantastic time at the Sports COPPS event at Manor Lakes College!

The event brought together 380 students for a fun, safe and energetic day focused on building positive connections with Police and emergency services, encouraging physical activity and promoting wellbeing! 🏃‍♂️💪

Our team enjoyed engaging with students and sharing important tips about storm safety and emergency preparedness to help keep our younger community members safe! ⛈️🧡

It was a wonderful day filled with learning, laughter and community connection!

Our very own Theus and a member of the CFA also had some fun racing against the speed gun in CFA gear.

🧡 Educating today for a safer tomorrow!

🧡 Community Engagement Facilitator🧡

Today, Alix and I had the opportunity to complete the Community Engagement Facilitators (CEF) course through VICSES.

The course provided us with valuable skills, knowledge and practical tools to help us better engage with our community, fellow SES members, families and other stakeholders.

We explored different engagement frameworks, how to identify the most effective approach for different situations, the resources available to us and where to seek guidance and support when needed.

💡 Community engagement is about more than just sharing information. It’s about building relationships, listening, understanding different needs and creating meaningful connections.

We’re looking forward to bringing what we’ve learnt back to VICSES Wyndham West, strengthening our connections and continuing to build a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment for our members, their families and the wider community.

🧡 Because strong communities start with strong connections! 🧡

The road has since reopened

⚠️COTTRELL STREET CLOSED DUE TO FLOODING⚠️

Cottrell Street is currently closed due to flooding following recent rainfall across the area.

At this stage, flooding remains at a minor level and no further disruptions are expected. Our volunteers will continue to monitor conditions as required.

🚧 Please obey all road closure signs and find an alternative route.

🌊 Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater. Conditions and water depth are difficult to judge, and roads beneath floodwater may be damaged.

If it’s flooded, forget it.

For VICSES flood and storm assistance, call 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000).

🚨 JOINT SERVICES RESCUE -
YOU YANGS 🚨

On Tuesday, VICSES Wyndham West volunteers joined Ambulance Victoria, Parks Victoria and the VICSES Corio Unit for a rescue operation at the You Yangs.

Our volunteers train regularly to prepare for the unexpected. This incident highlighted the importance of strong skills, teamwork and coordination.

Using a Mule stretcher, crews safely extracted a patient who had broken his ankle and assisted him to safety. It was a great example of emergency services working together when it matters most. 🧡

🥾 Heading out for a hike? Stay safe:

✅ Check the weather and track conditions before you leave
✅ Wear suitable footwear and clothing
✅ Carry plenty of water, food and essential medication
✅ Take a charged mobile phone and consider carrying a power bank
✅ Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to return
✅ Stay on marked tracks and know your limits
✅ Download the Emergency Plus (Emergency+) app so you can share your location if needed

If you need urgent emergency assistance, call Triple Zero (000).

A fantastic effort by everyone involved—and a timely reminder of the value of training, teamwork and preparation. 🧡💙
