The last few days I’ve spent time with local students, families and volunteers:

•The opening of the Tea Tree Gully Scout Group which has been formed after merging Ridgehavenand Hope Valley Scout Groups;
•Girl’s Under 9 team at Modbury Vista Soccer Club (Official);
•Inaugural African Children’s Book Festival sponsored by Rotary Club of Salisbury, SA;
•Official opening of Marsha Reserve;
•Judging at the 33rd One + Book Cup;
•Opening of SACA’s 100th Places to Play Cricket at The Heights School.

There’s always things happening in our community!

This morning I met the Modbury Vista Soccer Club (Official) girls Under 9’s team and watched their game. I was impressed by their friendship and pride they have with each other.

Paige’s older sister Sammy also plays for the Club and referee’d the game.

I was really impressed with all the parents supporting their children of at 9am on a Sunday morning!

Registrations essential for this free Forum!

The SA Government is holding a Bird Flu Community Forum on Monday 24 August at Golden Grove Recreation & Arts Centre.

This morning I was interviewed by Troy Silcock from ABC Adelaide about Goosey.

Goosey was watching us so I made sure Troy was standing between us.

Troy thought Wynn Vale Dam is an oasis - can’t disagree with that!

A glorious day for chocolate at the Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum!

And who pinched Jenny’s timtams?

The quirky Chocolate Coated History exhibition started with a chocolate fondue sample served by Jenny. She told me there had been 3 timtams on display and they disappeared….

I also bumped into local volunteers Gill, Allan, Linda, Phil, Peter and Alan Z who was wearing an original Stetson hat from Ohio.

This was followed by a lovely Devonshire tea for one sitting under the trees - it felt like I was living a scene from an impressionist painting.

Proposed new roundabout at Ladywood Road and Milne Road intersection!!!

I moved that the Milne Road Traffic Study recommendations be endorsed by Council including a new roundabout at the Ladywood Road and Milne Road intersection!

Did you know that up to 14,000 vehicles travel on the section of Milne Road between Golden Grove Road and McIntyre Road? And that the McIntyre Road/ Milne Road meets the Black Spot funding criteria? And that the biggest problem isn't speeding, it's giving way non-compliance!

There are 3 Stages with detailed recommendations so here's a brief summary:

Stage 1 - immediate safety and accessibility package including designing and planning new roundabout.

Stage 2: construction of new roundabout and upgrade to existing roundabout

Stage 3: long term monitoring of Kingsford Smith Drive/ Milne Road intersection and McIntyre Road intersection whilst liaising with the Department of Infrastructure and Transport.

Funding will be considered in future draft Annual Business Plans and advocacy for external funding support with the State Government and grant funding opportunities.

Huge thanks to all the residents who raised with me their concerns about this part of Milne Road.!

Good news!

Good news - testing for H5 bird flu has come back negative for the ibis and cockatoo from Wynn Vale.

However, the advice is clear;

AVOID contact with sick birds or wildlife. Keep pets away.

RECORD what you see.

REPORT to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

This morning Goosey charged me at Wynn Vale Dam - I didn’t know I could run!

Later I found out why - Goosey is helping look after recently hatched ducklings and I came too close.

Please look out for ducklings and be mindful of Goosey’s protective instincts!

Unfortunately a case of H5 Bird Flu has been detected in the vicinity of Wynn Vale Dam.

I’m sharing Blair Boyer MP’s post which has valuable information including the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline Number 1800 675 888.

Avoid touching sick or dead birds (or wildlife), take photos of the location and call the hotline to report it.

A lot of people would have heard about the H5 strain of bird flu lately and how it had spread to every continent on the globe, except Australia.

Unfortunately, it was just a matter of time before bird flu arrived in Australia and the latest advice shows there have now been 147 confirmed positive detections in South Australia.

An additional 13 suspect cases have been detected, including in an Ibis from Wynn Vale.

The samples have been sent to the CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) for testing and we’ll know for sure in the next few days.

I know this might come as a bit of a shock for locals who - like me - love spending time around Wynn Vale Dam.

Please continue to avoid touching sick or dead birds and other wildlife. Record what you see. Report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
