🚒 Today is St Florian’s Day - also known as International Firefighter’s Day.

❤️ It's a time for us to thank every firefighter - past and present - for their bravery, dedication, and commitment to protecting lives and communities.

❤️ We pause to remember and honour those firefighters who sadly lost their lives protecting others. May they rest in peace.

We’d like to let our community know that a planned emergency exercise will be taking place at Burnie Airport on Monday 20 April.
You may see emergency vehicles, and emergency personnel in and around the airport during this time. Please rest assured this is just a training exercise, and there is absolutely no danger to the public.

🔥 The 2025/26 Fire Permit Period will end statewide tomorrow (Thursday, 9 April 2026).

ℹ️ From 2am tomorrow, if you’re considering burning on your property:
🤝 you don’t require a fire permit
🤝 BUT we encourage you to register your burn by calling 1800 000 699. Registering your burn will ensure your local Tasmania Fire Service brigade are aware of your plans and can respond accordingly.

📍 Remember:
➡️ Anyone conducting a burn must be capable of managing the fire and be mindful of changing weather conditions.
➡️ Make sure an adult is always attending the burn until it is fully extinguished.
➡️ Have suitable working firefighting equipment available to appropriately manage fire activity in the event that the fire begins to spread.
➡️ Never light fires in peat, humus, or marram grass.
➡️ Landowners are responsible for any damage caused by fires escaping their land.
➡️ Ensure your neighbours are aware and that your burn won’t adversely affect their health, or farming operations – particularly the wine industry, which is vulnerable to smoke.
➡️ Burning on private property is governed by local council by-laws and environmental laws about smoke emissions.

Our crews responded to three bushfires yesterday afternoon, prompting emergency and watch and act warnings for communities in the state’s south, central highlands and the north west.

🔥 A fire at Glen Dhu Road, Molesworth, spread quickly due to dry conditions and available fuels. A Bushfire Advice warning remains in place and crews will be patrolling over the coming days.

🔥A fire at Cuprona Road, Heybridge also remains at Bushfire Advice level with crews including heavy machinery returning to the fireground this morning.

🔥A Bushfire Watch and Act warning remains in place for a fire at Woods Lake, Interlaken. Fire crews and heavy machinery remain on the fireground this morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast an increased risk of thunderstorms, lightning, strong to gusty winds, and increased fire danger weather today, so it is important that all Tasmanians are prepared.

Take extra precautions if you plan on conducting activities such as cutting, welding and using heavy machinery as sparks can easily start fires in the already dry conditions making controlling any fires that do start difficult to control.

🔥 If you see a fire burning, report it to triple zero (000).

🔥 For information on preparing your property, go to the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au and download a copy of the Bushfire Safety Guide.

🔥 To check the fire danger rating in your area, visit www.fire.tas.gov.au/fire -danger-ratings/summary/

🔥 For bushfire warnings and alerts, visit TasALERT or listen to ABC Radio as emergency broadcaster.

Yesterday afternoon, Wynyard Fire Brigade and Somerset Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a vegetation fire on the Bass Highway near Deep Creek Road. The fire was started by a falling tree that came down across powerlines sparking a fire that quickly spread in the grass and bushland. The fire was quickly contained and once TasNetworks had confirmed the downed lines were isolated, crews were able to mop up the area.

Special thanks to the person who dropped off some nice cold bottles of drinking water. It was greatly appreciated!

This is a great reminder that fires can start anywhere at anytime and with forecast high fire danger tomorrow due to strong winds, we ask that everyone remain vigilant and check on any recent fires they may have had on their property and call 000 to report any fires as early as possible.

It is important to have your bushfire plan ready and be prepared to act if a fire starts.
