I’m delighted that the Australian Jillaroos and Cook Islands Rugby League teams have chosen the Central Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Complex at Tuggerah as their training base ahead of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. This is a fantastic endorsement of our region and our world-class sporting facilities.

Genevieve Muir is our September Community Champion and the final inspiring individual I will have the honour of recognising as Mayor. As the driving force behind The Kindness Pantry, Genevieve has created a free community pantry at Charmhaven and Toukley, providing food and essential items to those in need through the generosity of local residents, businesses and community partners. With a vision to establish a network of pantries across the Central Coast, Genevieve is helping ensure no-one is ever far from support. I congratulate her on her outstanding dedication to building a stronger, more caring community.

It was a privilege to be invited to the Pearl Beach Arboretum’s 50th Anniversary Lunch yesterday, celebrating a remarkable environmental achievement and the dedicated people who have helped create and nurture this special place over the past 5 decades. Sharing lunch with Arboretum President Mary Knaggs, the Management Committee, Aunty Di from Mingaletta Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation, Liesl Tesch MP, volunteers and the Arboretum’s longest-serving member, Maggie Payne, was a wonderful reminder of the strong community spirit that makes the Arboretum so special. Congratulations to everyone who has contributed their time, passion and commitment to preserving this incredible community asset for future generations.

It was great to be at polytec Stadium today, with Cr Neal and Cr McNamara for the launch of the 2027 Australian Masters Games with Australian Masters Games GM, Hayley Ianna and competitors. The Central Coast will join Newcastle in co-hosting the 21st Australian Masters Games from 13 to 20 November 2027, bringing thousands of participants, supporters and volunteers to our region. The 2027 Games will also mark the 40th anniversary of the Games and its return to NSW for the first time in more than 25 years. We look forward to welcoming competitors from across Australia and showcasing everything the Central Coast has to offer.

Today, we announced the completion of the construction of the two new sets of stairs at Blue Lagoon Beach. Blue Lagoon Beach is a special place for so many people. This project is all about reconnecting our community with one of our most loved beaches and making sure it remains accessible into the future. I’d like to thank the NSW Government for its support through the Crown Reserves Improvement Fund. This funding partnership has helped deliver a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone who enjoys this beautiful part of the Central Coast.

Yesterday I attended the Central Coast Heart Support Group, a wonderful local community group that provides free support for people living with heart disease, as well as their families and carers. Proudly supported by Heart Support Australia, the group provides a welcoming space for people to connect, share experiences and support one another with others who truly understand the journey. I believe that community connections like these make a real difference, helping people feel informed and supported. A big thank you to nurses Sara and Liz, and dietitian Joe, for the invaluable advice, encouragement and care they provide to members. The group meets every month at the Kariong Neighbourhood Centre. If you or someone you know could benefit from this support, find out more at www.heartsupport.org.au.

Saturday’s inaugural 2026 Pearly Spurtle Festival of Porridge was an incredible day. I was delighted to serve as one of the judges and be part of this unique event. From the opening parade led by the City of Gosford Pipe Band through the streets of Pearl Beach to the crowning of Australia’s first Porridge Champion, Robert Reid, the day was filled with community spirit, Scottish culture and friendly competition.

Congratulations to Robert Reid, who will now represent Australia at the 2026 Golden Spurtle World Porridge Making Championship in Scotland. I can't wait to see our national champion take on the world stage!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending Housing and Support Connect Day, an incredible community event bringing together more than 90 local services under one roof. I was proud to see Council partnering with Uniting and a range of dedicated organisations to help connect people with housing support, employment opportunities, health services, legal and financial assistance. A huge thank you to all the organisers, sponsors, service providers and volunteers whose hard work made the day possible.
