🔥 505 Wyong taking on Furber Steps for MND (Motor Neuron Disease)💙

What a weekend! The 505 crew have smashed out more than 120 combined laps of Furber Steps 💪🔥

Saturday morning also included a very special sunrise memorial service that a couple of our crew were lucky enough to attend, it was incredibly emotional. ❤️

And that’s exactly why we climb:
For those living with MND.�For those we’ve lost.�For the families and loved ones who carry the weight alongside them.�And for those who simply can’t climb anymore.

Every lap was sweat, pain and effort — but it means so much more when we know what we’re climbing for.

🚒 HYDRANT HAZARDS — HELP US HELP YOU! 💧

Our hydrants are there when we need them most, but a few common hazards can make accessing them difficult when every second counts.

🐜 🐜 🐜 Ants and overgrown areas can make hydrants difficult to locate and access.
🚗 Cars parked over or too close to hydrants can prevent fire trucks and crews from getting to them.
🌱 Hydrants becoming buried in dirt or landscaping can make them almost impossible to find quickly.

A huge thank you to our community who help us by keeping the grass and vegetation trimmed around hydrants and making sure they remain clearly visible. 🙏

It might seem like a small thing, but keeping a hydrant accessible could make a very big difference when we need it. ❤️‍🔥

🔥 505 WYONG IS CLIMBING FOR MND — WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT 💙

On 28–29 August, 505 Wyong will take on the Furber Stairs at Katoomba for Firies Climb for MND.

We’ll push ourselves to the limit, knowing it’s nothing compared to what people living with Motor Neuron Disease face every day.

MND is devastating:

🔴 300% increase in MND deaths since the 1980s
🔴 Around 800 Australians die from MND every year
🔴 1 in 200 Australians will die from MND
🔴 Every 2½ hours, someone is diagnosed
🔴 It progressively takes away the ability to move, speak, breathe and swallow.

But there is hope.

Funds raised support vital MND research at Macquarie University, with over $3 million raised so far through Firies Climb for MND.

🔥 505 Wyong out and about! 🚒

Today the crew from 505 Wyong attended a hazard reduction burn at Westfield Tuggerah, working alongside other FRNSW stations and RFS crews to help reduce fuel loads and bushfire risk in our local community.

A great opportunity to work together, build experience and help keep our community safer. 💪🔥

Fire and Rescue NSW Wyong 505 is proud to be collaborating with local community organisations to help connect people with the support and services they may need.

If you're unsure where to turn for assistance, this is a great opportunity to learn about the range of local services available to help keep you, your family, and our community safe and supported.

As part of this initiative, Wyong 505 will also be offering free Home Fire Safety Visits, including smoke alarm inspections and testing. These visits help ensure your smoke alarms are working correctly, providing you with the earliest possible warning in the event of a fire.

We look forward to meeting members of our community and helping make every home a safer place.

Saturday marked Day one of the Regional Firefighter Championships in Goulburn! 🚒🔥

It was a great day of competition, teamwork and camaraderie as crews from across the state came together to put their skills and training to the test.
