Yesterday Sunshine Coast crews travelled to Doughboy - west of Bundaberg to work the late shift on a bushfire. It was a very busy night for all including some fire ground repairs. Well done to Bruce, and a special mention to Aimee and Shanice with reports from the fireground of their huge efforts 🔥👏

Last night the Maroochy River RFB AGM was held. With this some small changes have been made to the brigade management committee. We would like to thank all outgoing positions for their continued dedication and leadership to the local community, and welcome some new faces into the team. Your newly elected representatives are -

Secretary - Stuart
Treasurer - Shanice
4th Officer - Dale
3rd Officer - Todd
2nd Officer - Splinter
1st Officer - Sam

Additionally we would like to congratulate Aimee, Shanice and Stuart on obtaining their Cert II in Public Safety - Firefighting. Hard work pays off, and we look forward to seeing them grow during their careers in the Rural Fire Service.

Stay up to date.

As Queensland’s higher risk bushfire period approaches, it’s important to stay across the Fire Danger Rating for your area.

The FDR is updated daily and reflects how severe a bushfire could be and how difficult it would be to contain.

🟢 Moderate: Stay up to date and be ready to act.

🟡 High: Decide what you’ll do if a fire starts and be alert during heightened fire conditions.

🟠 Extreme: Make sure your property is fire ready and, if a fire starts, take immediate action.

🔴 Catastrophic: Leave bushfire risk areas. Stay safe by getting to a safer location in the morning or the night before.

Last night the River Rats and fellow brigades were assisting QLD Parks with a hazard reduction burn in the Noosa National Park. A late night was had after a successful reduction burn of 150 HA
Thanks to Splinter, Dale, Callum and Shanice in the 51 and Trev and Steptoe in the 43.

🔥 Planned Burn Notice – Weyba Downs 🔥

QPWS and RFS are planning a 160-hectare planned burn in the West Weyba section of Noosa National Park this Thursday (4 June 2026), weather permitting.

📍 Location: Corner of Sunshine Motorway (Emu Mountain Arterial) & Eumarella Road, Weyba Downs

🕒 Timing:
• Crews onsite from 3:00pm
• Ignition from 4:00pm
• Traffic control from 6:00pm
• Burn expected to be completed by 2:00am

🌫️ What to expect:
Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas. If you are nearby, consider closing windows and doors to minimise any smoke impacts.

Planned burns are essential for reducing fuel loads and helping protect our community and environment. Crews will remain onsite until the area is safe.

Vale Bill Colley

One of our founding members of MRRFB, Bill Colley - passed away after an acute chronic illness.
A life time of service to the community, Bill served as ;
Third office for 21 years 1968-1989
First Officer and Fire Warden for 12 years 1989-2001
One of the orignal 'fire trucks' was a slip on unit that was homed in his shed on his farm.
Our sincere condolences and prayers to his wife Sylvia and family. A stalwart of the Brigade has left us with good memories and a legacy with the now River Rats.
